fuel height in float bowl - picture soon
« on: November 10, 2007, 01:08:21 AM »
on the carbs I have just rebuilt, the floats were pretty bent (this is a 69 cb750). So I straightened them out as much as I could, and got them all looking similar, then set the float height as per the manual.

non trusting the way I had to bend the tab, I have made up some fittings for the drain screws so that I can attach some clear plastic tubing, as a manometer, so that I can see the fuel heights for each of the carbs....

guess what... they are no even close...

does anyone know what level the fuel should be at? - in other words if you had to mark on the outside of the float bowl the level of the fuel, where would it be?

it this making sense? - probably not - a picture should help here, I'll try and get one

I know what you mean. On Kawasaki carbs you adjust the floats by measuring the fuel level. And normally it should be set to 3mm (2~4mm) below the float bowl gasket surface.

This is a simple gauge I have made for my Kawasaki carbs:

Ibsen, you got it in one...

My photo (a little more amateurish) shows the deluxe version ;)0, including a spirit level (the black thing at the back), I think you can just make out that 3/4 are roughly aligned, with no 4 cylinder being lower than the others...

I think I'll bring no 4 in line with the others.

Any one else done this? My levels on 3 of the pots must be a about 1cm below the bowl / carb body joint.

Nice setup ChainT.  I use a single hose which is a bit of a hassle.

Drain #1.
Attach hose to #1.
Drain #1 and #2.
Attach hose to #2.
etc...

The exact level is a good question that I've never found an answer to. After rebuild the carbs and setting them per spec., #3 and #4 had the same level so I adjusted #1 and #2 (they were both higher) to match.

chaintong, that is a neat set up.

Btw, since I'm using mine on a twin, and can adjust the floats one by one with the carbs installed on the bike I'm pleased with my little gauge.
