I am also working on a chest cover up. I had a friend who was apprenticing to be a tattoo artist for a while and I told him when he is ready he can put one on me. Eventually he turned out some pretty decent ones and told me he is ready. The only tattoo I never got that I wanted was my old submarine warfare insignia in traditional style. I figure bold lines, can't go wrong right? It was a nightmare. It looked horrible, so I started to get it covered up by someone else with a slightly bigger version. He is going to go over some of it again to blend it better next session. I had an idea of what I wanted to fill in for the rest of the chest before, but now it covers most of my small chest. I'm thinking just let the artist color in the background with the rising sun on the sea with clouds above. Any opinions from the artists, or anyone?

nice cover-up, sorry you had to sit through a chest piece just to get it covered. I've seen a lot of repairs at my friends shop.  the chest isn't exactly a cool jog in a flowery field.

Yea I had no idea. I came in pretty confident it wouldn't be too painful. 2 hours later I couldn't wait to get out of there. Here is what the outline looked like before.

While I dont have a full back peice I did the same thing by getting one fairly large first tattoo and nothing since. So one someone trys to show off their first piece and its little I pull mine out.

BTW Inks chest piece is so nice I trying to look at it every chance I get :P

Slayer, I have the sneaking suspicion that the second artist traced your outline, then during transfer mirrored the image.
Why follow w/ the same pattern, but instead, mirror it so it never matches up?

Edit: based on kit's response, I should say that I like it too.  I'm just curious for the real answer.

I'm guessing he did it that way to break up the lines in the sub in the center- that is, having lines that go in the opposite direction is a bit more aesthetically pleasing than a set of parallel lines that calls attention to it.  The way it is, it looks like metal sheeting to me. I'd not color it nor the background.  I think the problem with a lot of tattoos is that they're too 'busy'.  It's a great blend of lights and darks right now, it doesn't blob nor scream at the viewer's eyes.  I like it.

Wow nice work man. The artist said that the outline was too screwed up (and non symmetrical) to completely fix so he can do it the right way, but it would be a cover up. It will look better after the second sitting but yea I am thinking leave it like it is. I just want to get the chest all covered up but maybe it looks better this way. I always overkill.

It's a magnolia warbler, actually. Thanks though! It's a hobby of mine I've let slip behind a little... I need to get back at it.

The poison idea tattoo is one of my favorite that I've done. Healed perfectly, which is saying something for foot tattoos.

thanks Ink, i need to fly up to MI to get the rest of it done.  i'm probably going to go with the da vinci/slavador dali theme down to a half sleeve.  i've always wanted a couple koi, so i might try and draw it as da vinci would of with a dali influence, and oh ya, LOTS of color!!  to me, if it has some color, it should have LOTS of color!!!

i just wish i could man up and get my left side done the way i want to.  about a 20-24" tall piece across my whole cage and only my chest of icarus, should be pretty sick, IF i can manage to sit thru multiple sessions totaling around 24-30 hours...

maiden huh?  nice!

mine is going to be SLIGHTLY bigger than that, haha, and it's going to be of him flying up my side reaching out trying to grab my heart.  badass idea, just have to be able to sit thru it!  (i've love flight since i was a baby, always been amazed with anything that flies, so that's the inspiration)
