Gas cap gasket
« on: November 06, 2007, 02:20:19 PM »
I need to install a new gas cap gasket on my K0 750 to keep the gas in the tank, rather than on the tank and, subsequently, my legs. The cap is actually from a K2 750. How does this come apart to get the new gasket on? The parts fiche calls the retainer a "screw," but it doesn't unscrew. It just turns and turns.

Suggestions anyone?

Get the new one before removing the old one. It justs fits in the cap lip. There are at least two tipes of caps: one with a retainer screw that you can remove, and one that is riveted and turns but you can't remove the inner cap and spring. Nevertheless -even when I have a new gasket waiting for replacement- I believe you can install it without removing anything, if you know what I mean.

got a quick tip, I just did this on an old Farmall tractor.
Get a sheet of cork gasket material and cut out a circle for a gasket. Don't even need a whole sheet just a peice slightly biger than your cap. It's a quick cheap fix while you wait for the proper gasket.

I got a new one a few years back for my 550.  Just a couple bucks and in stock at the dealer.  As I recall it just slips in.

I replaced mine the year also. Cheap and in stock at the Honda dealer. They just stretch on as I recall. There was quite a bit of gunk under the old one.

The recently installed gasket on my CB350F just stretched on. The (presumably) original one just crumbled in my hand.

Hopefully mine goes on this smooth.  I need a gasket for my 550K on my new tank I just had painted.
