My fuel filter upgrade

Since I see another "inline " filter thread I wanted to write about my filter upgrade idea. I have used it for a few years I just wanted to make sure it works before I presented it. For years I also used inline filters and as we all know they are not without problems. I wanted a state of the art filter "INSIDE" my petcock. I bought a 90 degree sintered metal filter and broke it open. As most here know the fuel enters the petcock through the center pipe that has an OD of .238". I took the sintered filter and belt sanded the open end  to a length of 1.045" which gave a hole size of .266". This allows it to fit right over the pipe and bear on the solid part of the brass screen. I the got a fairly weak spring with an OD 0f .375" and cut to a free length of .820". This allows the spring to fit over the closed end of the sintered filter. As can be seen the spring holds the filter up tight and all fuel entering the bowl goes through the filter. While the can be cleaned I believe the sintered filters get crap inside and it is so easy to belt sand a new one that I don't mess with cleaning. Hope you guys like this idea. IT REALLY WORKS! It's simple, clean, and effective. It also works great when your original screen filter gives up.

I have also been concerned about using or not using a inline filter.  I understand that the Honda engineers designed the OEM petcock in the CB750 to filter out particles too. 

As many of you know  I have gone to great lengths to remove the kreeme liner out of my 74 tank .  I had to over 50 times, rinse and re rinse the tiny leftover white paper like junk in the tank.  I finished with metal rescue to remove surface rust  and now have a much  cleaner tank.  I was still concerned about getting tiny pieces/particles into the fuel system that may be in the seams of the tank..I know they are there lurking!

I am currently running two inline filters for now, but I have to say that this filter upgrade discussed above is an ingenious idea that I am going to use.  I will be removing my inline filters too.
