NEED SOME HELP WITH REASSEMBLY OF CONTROLS ON MY DRAG BARS
« on: November 12, 2007, 12:12:36 PM »
HELLO ALL ITS BEEN A PRODUCTIVE WEEKEND IN THE GARAGE, BUT I HAVE HIT A WALL ON MY DRAG BARS. I HAVE ALL THE WIRES HOOKED UP BUT MY CONTROLS LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE WONT GO BACK ON WITHOUT INTERFERENCE FROM THE WIRES TO THE BUCKET. I AM RUNNING THE WIRES OUTSIDE THE HANDLEBAR ALSO THE WIRES AND CABLES SEEM ALOT LONGER THEN THEY DID IN THE STOCK HANDLE BAR ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.
THX.

you need to notch out a place on the controls for the wires to exit.
the wires and cables are longer because the bars are shorter, excess wires can be pushed into headlight bucket. the cables have to be re-routed or shortened

The controls also have a short pin inside that usually slots into the hole in the handlebar. If you DONT have a hole in your drag bar for it to slot into then your switches wont go back to together. You can pull the pin out with pliers.

(Also TURN THE CAPS OFF - ON THE INTERNET TYPING IN CAPS is like SHOUTING!!  ;))

cheers
Andy

I never noticed any pin on the controls.I will check again. As for notching the controls I started doing that with a drill with a metal cutting wheel but thought twice on that and started this blog.I started grinding  on the right control on what would be the bottom part of the control and thought to myself how would this stay on if I notch this out wouldnt the control be loose and fall foreward? Have I screwed this part up? If it doesnt have pins how do I get this too work?
thx

There is a gold pin the center of the lower half of each switch which can be pulled out. Once the two halves are mated (and I cant offer a good solution for your wire issue except to say drill a hole in your bar like the stock bars have or cut a notch on the control as previously suggested) then tighten to prevent the switch moving on the bar. It should hold ok although there will be a little movement if forced. I have it set up like this on my K2 and it works ok -been riding all summer like this.

good luck,
Andy

;DThanks so much for the tips. The "notching out" of the controls,I started doing something like that Mon. afternoon.I couldnt fit them together so I started gringing the control to make it wide enough at the back/bottom side for the control to fit over the handle bar and the wires to exit out the control. Was that the proper way or was I supposed to just make a slit downwardand make it fit that way?
thx
Gordon ???
