Now with PICS....UPDATE: Found a BIKE!!!
« on: November 13, 2007, 05:49:09 AM »
Does anyone know anything about these bikes... It looks like a cool bike and there is one near me in ok shape for $250.... 95hp seems to itch to be made into a cafe bike.

Thanks,

Scott

Hey, Scott,

They were great bikes!  They were the strongest of the big 4 Jap superbikes back in the Superbike I wars of 1978 - 1980.  Bested the CBX, GS1000 & KZ1000.  However, they were the worst of the bunch in handling.  Not quite stiff enough frames, and shaft drive.

I owned one for a year or two, and it was a nice machine.  'course, by the time I owned it, it was nearly 20 years old.

I'd say go for it!

Kirk

VERY occasionally early ones had gearbox troubles (jumping 2nd usually) Reg/Rec gives same trouble as 750 triple and was modded several times, Lots of them been parked wrong side of a ditch/hedge so check for straightness.

Lethally quick for its day and gobs of fun!!

Very strong bikes. I could pull 100+ even with that thing hanging off the side.

Some did have 2nd gear problems. $250 is a real good price though if its in halfway decent shape. If you do pick it up there is an excellent site dedicated to them. www.xs11.com

I sold mine a couple of years ago, might have one again someday.

I sent an e-mail to the seller. I hope to hear back soon.  Might be a fun winter project.  I can then try to restore my CB to all is former glory, without having these awful feelings about making it into a cafe bike.

I liked them, awesome torque at very low rpm.
Heavy on rear tyres as you could get it to break loose at about 1,200~1,500 rpm then just accelerate and change gear with it still spinning (still looks impressive,  ;D)
Second gear should have been fixed, Yamaha may still have modified parts. Hardest thing was getting engine out as its so heavy

 ;D Hey Scott,

That's exactly how I just bought my "new" 76 750K.  I've been putting aside $15 every two weeks into a second account.

A year later now, I have enought money to buy the bike, and a new front tire for it!

Im going to do it a little differently.....  :D ... I had a serious RC rock crawling hobby.  I figure I can get about 500-1200 bucks fairly quick depending on what I decide to sell...

RC rock crawling you say?

YEP......
With lockers, full axles, trannies, beadlocks, full frames and shocks.... but electric powered.

Trail riding... pulling an FJ back over

A little mudding.

They flex too....

Well I have a bunch of this stuff to sell....  ;D ;D ;D ;D

The more I am looking around, the more I am liking the idea of a dual sport bike.... As you and ANDY saw, there are a HUGE amount of trails as well as good roads where I live.
