« on: November 13, 2007, 05:13:42 PM »
Im a bit confused, is this a 79 cb650? I found this thing for sale in hopes of using it as a possible parts bike but from the pictures it doesnt look to me like a cb650. What do you think?

Drum front brake so 350, possibly 250 in UK
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Definately no '79cb650.

Things to spot(to my eye) that are telltale signs of a '79 are the side covers, look at a couple stocker pics, and compare to 750/550 or other 650 pics, you will see what I mean.

The turn signals are mounted off the grab bar, not off the brake light assembly, frame or the rear fender.

The tank is definately unique on the '79 650 as well.
Look at a '80/81/82cb650(SOHC) and compare to a '79.... BIG difference.
Another is looking at the seat, the '79seat has a slight rise for the passenger seat, the '80 and newer have a more pronounced rise for the passenger seat.

Also the '79cb650 (in the US) came stock with the reversed stamped comstars.
Not spokes, and not the standard comstars found on bikes such as the '79DOHC 750.

Good luck finding a '79.... I'm trying to find a mate to mine.... I always wanted twins.

The head and side covers are differant then the cb350 twin thats why I thought maybe it was a cb360.

Well if anyone is looking for a cheap cb350 that one is listed on craigs list  in New Hampshire for $275. Doesn't seem bad, guy said it was registered and running last summer.

I believe what you have found is a CB360, the replacement for the old 350 twin.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
