Here's an example of MY idea of a fine vintage Mopar!

1964 Plymouth Sport Fury 426 Max Wedge Power

that and the belvedere of the same vintage. black, dogdish hubcaps, a total sleeper

My only Chevy was a 58' Impala w/348 like this one except mine didn't have fender skirts and (what we called "Gangsterwalls") the wide white sidewall tires.

I liked that one too! Kinda heavy, but a pretty good runner!

Real cars have a bowtie on the front of them  ;D

Real cars are good enough they don't need a stinking bow tie.

You know Chris, the way I look at it is, You chose the brand that does it for YOU. Problem is, SOME feel that what ever They'e got, is the Only brand that's good and Everyone should have That brand ONLY! That's what I have a problem with. I've never had a Ford, I've driven a few and just wasn't comfortable. I have had a Chevy and totally enjoyed it and wouldn't mind having another 58' Impala (can't afford one now though) and I've always had a liking for the 62' Impala SS w/ 409hp 409/4sp/posi or a 63' Impala SS w/425hp 409. Again, too expensive now. :(

Agreed Bill. I've always been a Mopar fan - since I was 10 or so. I've still got 7 in my garage right now (and one lone Boo-ick that was my father's). Up to about 10 years ago I was the "Mopar or no car" type. Now I still love the Mopars, but don't see the need to have the blinders on and ignore other brands.

But the sound of a 4 gear hemi rowing through the gears at WOT is music. The ride - every bit as nice.

Not so much love for the new conveyance devices. They outperform the old ones in every area, but have little personality.

6pk, I hear every word you're saying and agree totally! Gotta say though that I sure wouldn't mind having the chance to put one of those 600hp Vipers through the paces though. On the other hand though, putting a Hemi or 440-6pk Challenger or Cuda through the same paces, could be quite exciting though. I DID get the chance to "wring out" a "Little Red Express" when they first came out though. I pulled onto the Little Rock Dodge car lot in my 69' road runner and got immediate attention from salesmen. It seems that the owner of L. R. Dodge's son had a 69' road runner drag car and was looking for another one, so they did everything they could to get me to trade for the truck. The truck sold for about $7,000 new and, according to 2 magazines (Pickup, Van & 4 Wheel Drive & I don't remember the other magazine, maybe Car Craft) did road test comparisons which showed the "Little Red Express" coming out on top in every category and against every vehicle tested with it. As we (me driving and a salesman as a passenger) went down the road, I was running it pretty briskly and the salesman said, "No, Get On It!" and I did. After really checking the truck out, I was wishing I could get it! They keep trying to deal with me for my road runner and, finally, I said I'd trade them straight across ans (of course) the salesman said, "We Can't Do That!" Well, the road test didn't last long after that! Should have seen the looks I got, as I drove my car off of the lot! Don't know if they ever found th Bosses son one for another drag car or not and I don't care!

Bill - the old girls shook, rattled, and with the LSA and high overlap of the cams poured hydrocarbons in the air and eyes like crazy at idle. No braking, handling - but oozed personality. While a Viper is a formidable machine and will embarrass any hemi or 6bbl made, its still pretty antiseptic to me. I've only ever been in one and it makes all areas of performance seem effortless and ho-hum. One has no idea they are traveling at 120 or 140 mph. Its just too easy all the while making you feel like you're in your living room.
In no way am I putting down the advances that technology has made in the last 35 to 40 years, I guess I just have a soft spot for the old dinosaurs I remember from wayback. Open the hood and see an engine..period. Today they even put huge plastic shields over the engine - may as well be a sewing machine under there.

Park a 6bbl runner or hemi R/T next to a Viper at the local gag and puke and see who garners the most attention.

My old hemi R/T ragtop. Lot of great memories. The old bias plys were on for the laugh quotient. Had to get a picture of it.

I guess that why we all love our old SOHC's so much.... I have never had so many people come up just to talk about my '75 750.. And have a beautiful brand new X brand motorcycle sitting next to me never getting the light of day.  There is something to be said about old technology and these old vehicles.... They are living, breathing things. Almost organic in nature.(As much as a machine can be.)

I think the best thing about cars is the way some people will get so worked up about it.

Personally, I have the blue-oval disease, love Ford small blocks and FE motors, my buddy is into Dodge, my other buddy is into Chevy.  and it's so much fun to get him worked up by cutting on chevy.

The way I look at it though, all the US makers have been at it for around a hundred years, and you don't stick around that long by making junk.

Hey 6pk, You are absolutely right about the "Old Cars" having that personality! 8) I always enjoyed firing up my old 69' road runner, listening to the rumble of that exhaust and cruising down the highway. 8) ;) Our next door neighbor used my car as an alarm clock. ;D When I fired it up, she knew it was time for her family to get up and get around. :D She was kinda sad to see us go (when we moved away) for 2 reasons and one was she had to start setting an alarm to wake her and the family! ::) Yeah, I sure did like the sound and feel of the old "Muscle Cars" just like I like the old bikes especially our old Honda SOHC4s and my other Hondas too (750 DOHC, 450 DOHC & CB77 Super Hawk)! And talk about sound, my buddy from Ft. Smith came down yesterday on his CBX (79' or 80', I can't remember) with a DG 6 into 2 exhaust and it looks and sounds TOUGH!

i've had cars from each of the big 3 including a  72 caddy hearse, and i've loved em all, except for that damned 92 caravan THAT was the worst vehicle i ever owned. anyways, i've had 2 camaros (a 71 z28 and a 79 z28) a 68 dart gt with a 318 and numerous mustangs and a bunch of full sized fords. i'll drive ANY car that looks and runs good BUT the early (pre 70') full sized fords are where my heart is really at. my 66 galaxie with the 390 was the fatsest car in town when i was a teenager. it had PI heads and a 3 2bbl setup.

Bill, a friend of mine tossed his 69.5 Super Bee down the road in 1970. I had a 1968 383 4 gear runner at the time. Got his 440 six pack, 18 spline 833 and the 4.10 Dana out of it and put it into my runner. Threw in a Racer Brown cam and springs and a set of 1 7/8 Hooker headers onto it. Didn't have any welding gear at the house to make up the exhaust, so ran down to another buddy's place with open headers. Sounded so good we ran all over town with open headers all night. How we didn't get tagged by the boys in blue with the racket is still beyond me.

I have had my share of old muscle cars , and they have all been Chevy's..
1st real car project was my old 1972 Hova (Pro-Street-12 poitn cage- 632c.i.d street driven fun). Was a blast being 21 years old with a 800hp street driven car (i have the tickets to prove it) -->
Then I went to the current 55 Bel-Air (which will soon be big block powered)--->
Out of ALL the cars I have owned (and believe me their have been allot), I have had one Mopar (1998 Jeep Wrangler). I had so many damn issues with that thing it wasnt even funny. Everything from the airbag light going off to the paint peeling (and I mean peeling) off the doors, to just an overall poor fit and finish.

I know the Mopar Vs. Chevy Vs. Ford battle is never going to end, but just so you all know GM is the king !  ;D

           King of? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ???
As I already said, I fancy some of the GM cars too but I think, if you'll check, the 55 Chevy isn't really considered a Muscle Car as such. I mean, a 32' roadster with a blown 427 Chevy HAS muscle but isn't one either. Try from about 64' - around 70' (or so) They started detuning the motors around 71'. Just a bit of info that I experienced back in the "Days of THE Muscle Cars".

My main experiences with Mopars include a 1985 Dodge Daytona Turbo with a mopar stage 1 computer. a 1973 Dodge D100 1/2 ton with a 318 racing engine out of a 1977 Dodge Aspen R/T stock car. and that same 1977 Dodge Aspen R/T stock car after my father and i restored it to being street legal. only by that time it had a 360 V8 in it and a Hemi 4 speed along with a pistol grip shifter...The truck and the Aspen were all buisness inside..both were set up like stock cars in the interior...bare bones with a roll cage. Autometer guages on aluminum dash panels in both as well. and neiither really had much of an exhaust to speak of...Headers going into short glass packs followed by side exits in front of the rear wheels.

   Terry,

Anybody, with a right mind, would have to admit that it's pretty impressive to see a full size cargo van, pull the front wheels off of the ground! 8) I don't care what the brand is! ;) Imagine how much lower the elapsed time would be, if it hadn't of pulled the wheels though! A wheelie always is impressive though. ;)

BTW, How about THIS for a wheelstand?
