Any good ideas for a temporary fuel bottle?
« on: November 15, 2007, 12:37:36 PM »
I've got my tank off my wife's bike but want to run it to adj the carbs...

So, anybody got some good ideas for a temporary fuel bottle?

You know, like the IV bottle in a hospital.

I've seen them on the OCC show and on a web site for $60, but that's a lot for the few times I'll need it.

Thanks in advance, Phil
   And thanks for the forum!

Cheapest way to go is to just pick up some gas line.  I
used a latter to put the tank on and just ran the line to the carbs.

20 fl oz soda bottle. Fill it with gas, and screw on one of the adjustable oil dispensers that you can buy for $.99 at the auto parts store. It allows you to adjust or completely turn off the flow from the container. It has a male fitting that allows gas line to be attached to it. Turn it over and punch a small vent hole in the bottom.

You can splurge for $3.99 and buy the dispenser and a plastic container that shows volume measurements and allows more fuel to be added easily. Attach to a microphone stand with boom or hammer together a couple of 2x4s with an arm to hang the bottle from and run hose to your carbs.

P.S. I use the same set up for I.V. bottles when necessary!

I went to the garbage dump and got a small plastic tank from a lawnmower.  Works great.

Windshield washer fluid containers from older VW Beetles.
Very robust and interesting looking, too.

I made mine from a metal gallon paint bucket from Lowes...soldered a brass fuel barb in the side at the bottom....the handle fits nice behind the grip and keeps it from falling of too.
Total cost $4!

I picked up a one gallon plastic gas can and found and found a plastic gas valve that came with a hose and a nipple at a local hardware store drilled a hole in the bottom of the gas can and used a hollow threaded pipe the kind you find in electrical light fixtures some rubber washers and nuts hose clamp and I was good to go cost about $12 good luck.

You could use any sort of gas can, including your tank, but I was thinking Boat tank, with the siphon bulb should help to get the gas there.

I mean that you could use a siphon bulb with any gas can, even to suck gas out of your lawn mower.

I found a 'coolant overflow bottle' at Advanced Auto for $7.

Now I have to find hoses, fittings and a valve.

The hose at AA was $1.50 a foot!

Later, Phil

I just bought one ready made at www.louis.de with a set of hoses and fittings. 24.99 euro. A little expensive in my opinion, but I needed it quick.

By the time I'm through, that's probably what I'll wind up spending on my contraption too...
