busted case revisited
« on: November 16, 2007, 07:56:20 pm »
I did some searching in the old post without finding anything but I'm sure its been talked about, so forgive the redundancy.
Has anyone had luck in removing just the lower half of the the engine case to repair a set of cracked cases? My high milage pug ugly motor that I'm running now isn't going to last forever and the clutch is getting slippery, rather than put money into it i would like to get my low mileage, clean, good running motor back into my bike, but the cases are fooked and its time to make it happen.
Any insight would be great.
I farted and made my son cry.

Flip er upside down , shim up near level, remove tranny and fly at er..       Tape off crank area and get it prepped for the welder, ground near the weld..

I think 1080 Leo did his like that.. better be good with a file or suck up to someone that is..

 it is doable..

Sounds good, I'll take a stab at it.

Yes, I did fix my lower case without fully disassembling the top end & cylinder head. I blew a chain at starting line at a drag race. Lucky for me I had all the pieces ( I think it broke into two big chunks ) & it was only the bottom case & sprocket cover. There was alot of filing & care. Lesson learned ,put a dab of silicone on your chain master link.
