Help with my VIN too...
« on: November 15, 2007, 09:48:26 PM »
I just picked up my new toy.cafe project, but I don't have the title in hand yet (this weekend), and the owner was not the guy who had the bike.
The VIN on the neck is CB750-1036388
The VIN on the engine is CB750E-2442247

The guy who owns the shop was unsure of the year, he received the bike as a drop ship with a CB550 that his client wanted restored, but he already has 15 or so 750's.

Pictures to follow

There's a FAQ with links to various sources of model history.

It's quite an old FAQ - let me know if any of the links are broken.

Just so you're clear.  The engine number is not a VIN.  The number that goes on the title is the number on the frame.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

I have looked in several ways, but came up a bit short, I have been looking for Honda Motorcycle Identification Guide, found referred to on this (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=5153.0) post.

Sorry about calling the engine number a VIN, I have found posts that call it an engine number and have told me that they are not the same numbers. Also that the E after the 750 has nothing to do with the model.

There is no VIN plate, and it looks like there never was one. The dealer told me that the early ones did not all come with these plates. The frame does not look to have been refinished in any way.

This is the guide:

What I gather is you have a K0 frame and a K6 engine.  I haven't heard of them not using plates.  It looks like the frame is late in the K0 since K1's start at 104.

I have seen at least 2 69 Honda 750,s with data plates, 1 being 11th  month 69. I think all 70 Hondas in North america came with them, correct me if I am wrong.

It may be something as simple as removed for paint, or not..

All I know is what I have heard from the guy at the Honda dealership. As for mine, it does not look like anything has been done to it, other than removal of air box and individual filters put in it's place and new exhaust. But then again, in the 37+ years since it was born it very likely could have gotten a respray, amongst other things.

There would be 2 holes about 3/32 of an inch or smaller, hard to find if painted over.
 Are you in the US??

They  either all had them, in which case yours is missing.. or US ones did not.

I think that "E" stands for engine.

So, if there is no VIN plate, where did you get the number?  Title?

The VIN number is stamped on the left side of the steering tube
