Thankfully I have never had to try, but I'm not sure I could heft my 750 up off level ground by myself and I'm 6'4" and around 230. Maybe I should switch to Loonymoon's ride.  ;)

he he.

You'd probably do better than me Bob... I can't even pick the 350 up. Once rode into the garage and thought I'd put the side stand down only to find the bike toppling over with me still on it... it was only the garage wall and (unfortunately) the tacho and my knee that stopped it going right over. I had enough of a job hauling the hefty thing off my leg from a 45 degree angle..let alone the ground. Perhaps I should revert to the twin.... might be lighter... :o.
Or maybe the Tomos 50cc moped i first started riding on when I was 16.. :-[

....eeeuuuuggh

I better not let my wife see that picture. She keeps saying, "now if she had a Vespa.." I keep telling her a vintage Vespa in great condition might be worth more than my 750.  ;)

Give her the 750 and you can have the vespa....you'd be able to pick that one up...!! ;D

I loved my Tomos moped at the time...though I had to help it up some steeper hills - like Fred Flintstone , not exactly being a waif-like figure its <4bhp was not good enough!...  It beat the 2-a-day bus service from the villiage though....just. I once had to ride it home with the handlebars and front forks all twisted when a lorry driver reversed over it...  ::)
Experience building .... I think you actually have to be braver to ride a 50cc than a bigger bike.. I'm convinced it's more dangerous as everyone tries to push you out of the way and overtakes you in stupid places. I always feel sorry for the person on the moped when I come up behind them and try to give them plenty of room!

I had a Raliegh Runabout moped when I was 16 (sadley no pics survive), which was years before any restrictions were introduced. It would do about 38mph according to my mate on his Garelli and had belt drive to the clutch, which slipped in the wet...

You see them on eBay every now and then.

Oh, and just to keep "on thread" I could pick it up!

Here's an archive pic:

Picking up your bike has less to do with your size versus the bike's than it does with technique.

I'm only 5'7" and 140 lbs, and I was able to pick up my 750 when I dropped it on the driveway last Winter.  The idea is to push it up with your legs, rather than lift it with your arms and back.

Well, maybe I should sell my 74 cb750 and the 75 cb750 and ride my "Man-bike", yes the old dependable Kawasaki S2 350. Ring-a-ding-a-ding-ding. And my name is the masculine form, Michel. Maybe I should change my name to Michael also?

So, that means that a CBR 600 RR is a girl bike? You need at least three balls like Terry to outgrow one of those bad asses. That guy was simply looking to tease you Frances, as he didn't have his own bike, much less being able to do his own maintenance. I'm not ashamed to admit that sometimes my CB750 scares the hell out of me, but maybe it have something to do with the fact that I'm a one-stoner...   ;D

Here's a few places to look if you want to learn how to pick up a dropped bike, no matter what size the bike is... (or what size you are):

http://www.motorbyte.com/mmm/pages/safety/safety47.htm

Or, since this thread started with a gender issue, if you want to see a girl pick one up:

http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/pickup.html

I've had to pick up a 500 pounder (CB750) twice, and it ain't fun. The first time was the very first time I moved a motorcycle, and I learned the hard way how top-heavy a 750 is! The second time I stopped at a friend's house and I happened to put the kickstand down in a gap between the brick pavers on his driveway. I got 3 steps from it when the stand sank in deep enough for it to fall. It was a lot of fun getting home with a busted clutch lever.... >:(

When I was a bright young man of 18, I got as drunk as I possibly could on Jack Daniels bourbon and set out for adventure on my new CB750F1 at a fair clip in a suburban street, got it up to around 90 Mph before I figured it was time to slow down at a "Y" intersection, anyway, I managed to hit the curb, "get some air", travel through a small tree and crash, sideways, into a sign post, bending it (the signpost) at right angles. I continued on, pivoting on the alternator cover, tank and handlebars, blinkers etc, for about another 50 yards before I came to a halt, dazed and confused. (well, moreso than usual)

One of the neighbourhood women, an old Italian lady, came out when she heard the bang, took one look at me and said something rather scathing in her native tongue, then turned on her heels, and went back inside her house, slamming the door in disgust. Hmmnnn, I picked myself up, walked over to the bike and picked it up too, noting a vague pain in my left side, and proceeded to push my battered beast the two miles back to my house.

I woke up the next morning in considerable pain, so reported for duty and went straight to the Regimental Aid Post and was taken across to the hospital for XRays, where it was determined that I'd broken all my ribs on that side, and a couple in more than one place. The doc asked what had happened, so I told him a modified version of events (leaving out the booze and speed) and when he asked me how heavy the bike was, he couldn't believe that I could pick it up, particularly with those injuries.

I guess the bottom line is that if you're having difficulties lifting your bike when you've dropped it, down a quart of Jack Daniels, and you'll have no difficulty at all, what Spinach is to Popeye, JD is to the "girlie" SOHC-4 rider! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

That's a lovely thought Unky Ernie, but sadly it was 27 years ago, although I remember the pain that persisted for several weeks, like it was yesterday! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, if you can lift a CB750 with your ribs broken you don't need a third stone HAHAHAHA!!!

Now I understand why Australia has never entered any war. If half of the soldiers are like good ol' Terry, it would be impossible to make them follow orders!!!

Hey Raul, it's probably just a language barrier thing, but in case you're not aware, Australia has been in EVERY war from the Boer War to this thing in Iraq, with every major conflict in between.

We haven't lost a war yet, (although I guess Korea and Vietnam was a draw?) but you're right, we have a reputation for being a little more "relaxed" when it comes to taking orders, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D (Tri-Nad)  ;D ;D ;D

You are right, maybe that addiction to booze is what make the Australian Army so eager to quarrel, and why figthing against a brother when you can fight together against a foreigner  HAHAHAHA

Huh? ::) I think you might want to pull out your Spanish-English dictionary mate, are you familiar with the old saying "People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"? (no pun intended:) Considering Spain's less than inspiring military history, and your on-going problems with Basque Seperatists ("brothers fighting brothers"?) maybe you should stick with nice neutral subjects, like bike stuff? Hmmnnnn............ Terry.

Well I used to drive a GL1100 before I came to my senses. Talking about a gurl bike.......
I am about 5'8 and 60kg and I was still able to pick up the bike, purely on that shot of adrenalin and "technic".

Yeah Terry, I have to agree with you. We use to say that envy is the spanish national sport, and here people is more concentrated in finding his own identity by separating from Spain. Last year there was a Forum (something like the World Expo, an event to justify a big building business) in Barcelona. It lasted about 4 months, with conferences, music blah blah blah. For those of you who doesn't know, Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, a spanish region that comprises 4 provinces and have their own dialect, originated from latin as well as spanish. They are for a long time claiming their autonomy like the basques, but luckily without violence. Can you believe that the signs in the Forum were in Catalan, English, French, German but not Spanish?

We also had a civil war 60 years ago, where people was killing their neigbours. There were two bands, and you have to belong to either one, so it was a matter of kill or be killed. What a nonsense.

Instead of fighting one against each other, whe should have gone down under and kick those aussies out. At least we could have plenty of space not to meet anybody to envy...

Now back to the forum purpose, it's true that this is a bike forum, but a little divert from the original subject is something common and I don't want to offend anybody nor do I get offended easily. As CB750f1 would say, peace....
