JAG - seat is more comfortable than I thought it would be.  Kinda like sitting on a wooden bench....

Beli - We miss you around C-bus this summer.  Don't worry we finished you 350 for you while you were gone.  I have been doing burnouts on the bumble bee over there in the short north screaming you just been stung!!!!

Jason - fork legs & engine covers were chromed, hubs & controls polished.

Troppo - the Japanese script translates into EXCESS!  I know that has been used before, but with the amount of money I ended up dumping into this project it only seemed right...

.RJ -  I found the brace out of Germany, Telefix.  It took 3 1/2 weeks to get here from Wild Hair Accessories and cost an arm and a leg.  There are 3 American dealers, Spec II and Bob's BMW had piss poor service.  Irfan at Wild Hair Accessories hooked me up the same day, good stuff.....  http://www.whaccessories.com/

fuel-line off of e-bay....

Thanks for the kind remarks, as good as she looks she pulls like a freakin freight train.  WBS Fabrication did a great job on the engine!

As some of you know around a month ago while out riding around town with some of the boy, the engine decided to let go!  I was fairly frustrated with only 250 miles on the bike.  The guys at WBS apologized for the problem and told me to bring it back and they would fix it.  Well once they tore into her, they discovered the cam chain cam loose, messing with the cam and making one of the exhaust valves bounce off the piston...  Can not speak highly enough of these guys as the bike was fixed quickly.  Kudos...

I can not wait to get some better videos for you guys, but it is going to have to wait until after winter.  Excess is in hibernation for the winter.  I will be working on a 76 CB 750 F I picked up cheap with a supposed 900 kit in it (does have a Dyna and coils and cam with the all of the spares: pistons, cam, rods, whole top end etc...)  Also trying to finish a 79 GS 1000 chop too...

Oh yea, Excess will be getting a new custom aluminum oil tank over the winter.  Do you guys think it should be polished or anodized black?

holy crap, I just found this and spent a few hours readi ng and looking at all the pics!!  AMAZING stuff you have done!  I totally want to run to my bike and start pulling it apart and fixing things lol!  I love the look and overall attention to details, just top notch bike all around.  I have some polishing to do, I can do it for free (just about) and I like doing it. those controls look awesome all polished up nice!  and polish the oil tank, I think it would add a nice touch, something to stand out a bit in that area.

That's a genuine Monty Campbell "X Pipe" mate, here's a link:

Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks for the complements cbr-eric, I had quite a bit of fun working on that project.  Not to mention beating on her this summer, can not wait for the weather to get nice again to go riding.  I am going to polish the aluminum oil tank first and see how she looks, then maybe anodize her black depending on how she looks?  These are fun bikes, currently working on a 76' 750 F2.  Just a quick clean up, tune up and paint before she moves on down the road.

That is correct Terry, good old Dr. Campbell out in Cali, has anyone ever done the before and after dyno runs?  Jaguar I got my system MX-1 off e-bay for around $280 - $300 if I remember correctly.  Make sure and get the right one (double check when you receive the pipes).

Been a while since I checked in....... :o :o :o
What did you do?! Voodoo! That thing is as cool as a polar bears toe nails!!! ;) ;) ;D ;D
I have a couple of questions about the x pipe if I could pick at your brain for a minute...
That is the 5 piece mx-1 correct? I searched campbells site and found the mx-nh pipe for the 700/750 for quite a bit of cash, and then noticed the pipe you have is the mx-1. So I am guessing that the mx-1 will fit with no problem other than personal prefferences with the cut down you did.
I am asking this because I convinced my wife that I am going to ebay my stock exhaust and pool some extra cash and go with the same pipe that you have there, if there is no major mods for it to fit.....
Man that is a very nice bike.....Needs dual disc's up front ;).

The cut down was to get it to fit the bike correctly.....if I remember right.....took alot of work for us to get it to fit right.

Ed probadly remembers more of the details than I.....i'm gett'n old...LOL!! ;D

That's what I thought, I figured the huge gap between the pipe and frame that was there before the chop was intended for access to the oil pan and such without having to take the exhaust off.
Man I would like to get my paws on a set of them..... 8)

Wasn't the problem (and the reason for the "cut and shut) caused by Monty sending out the wrong pipe in the first place? As I recall, the correct pipe is quite a good fit? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Goon thanks for the praise, she turned out better than I expected (besides the fact that I went a bit over board).  The pipe that I have on my bike is the MX-1 with the black finish, I wraped mine with black exhaust tape.

Terry is correct as usual, the reason that I had to cut and refit my pipe is Dr. Campbell (X-Pipe creator) sent me a pipe for a DOHC instead of my SOHC.  The DOHC had a much taller head than the SOHC.  Did not bother to send back because I had it for over a year and a half before I tried fitting the pipe, figured it would be easier to fit myself (with Greg, aka Ohiocaferacer and one of our buddies Jessie).

The only other mod we did was to cut the pipe where it attaches to the engine so that I could mount it like the stock exhaust mounts to the exhaust flanges using the star exhaust clamp.  Once I measure all the lengths and cut the end of the pipes to fit, then took it around to corner to Midas and had the tips flaired to fit over the flanges.  Then cut reliefs into the flared area so the star collar could pinch the pipe on the flange (works great).  Also added a rear rubber mount to the cross member  (where the center stand use to attach).  Monty said you did not need it, but Greg and I figured it would not hurt anything.

With the correct MX-1 pipe, I do not believe you would need to modify the pipe to fit correctly.  Do an X-pipe search on the SOHC-4 and do some research before making the purchase.

Well you did a great job mate, it looks brilliant! Now tell me, what do you think of the X pipes performance? I know a few guys who've bought them, but no-one has actually said how well they work? I've heard that they increase the low to mid range torque quite noticeably, is that how you see it? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thank you for the reply Bgfootball67, I am going to try and get the mx-1 for my sled this spring, with the sale of my stock pipes and some tax refund goods I will be smiling about my exhaust like you are. ;D

Good luck with the mods Goon!

Terry thanks for the compliment, that means a lot coming from you with all your work on the 750s and the GS bikes.  I have no real way of telling if the X-Pipe adds low and mid range torque?  With the big boar kit, the cam, head work, electronic ignition, new jetting, pods and a ton of other engine work it is hard to tell.  I may try throwing them on my 76 750 F when I get her back on the street in the spring, but we will see.  The look and sound cool as all get out to me, and my bike rides like a raped ape.  No complaints from me....

You might have already posted this, but where did you get those colored gas lines from??  Adds more color to the bike, I like it.

Got Excess back on the street this Memorial Day Weekend!  Nothing like a quick top end rebuild along with a custom aluminum oil tank to replace the Benji unit.  I need to post some new pics of the beast.  She has got a crazy sound and moves even faster.  Fun stuff, pics and video to follow!

Just curious. Why the replacement tank for the Benjie? I have a guess, but I'm curious.

Wanted the replacement tank for aesthetical reasons, just wanted to change that up a bit (too much black).  The engine let go (bent valve) due to cam chain coming loose.  Below are a few pics of the battery set up...

New pics soon to come...
