Here is some info:

July 25 - 27

The American Motorcyclist Association's only vintage motorcycle event returns for its 15th annual appearance at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.  Not only will be you be able to watch some of the classic motorcycles tour the picturesque 2.4 mile road course, but you'll also have a chance to own a piece of two-wheel history yourself, through memorabilia auctions hosted by the AMA Motorcycle Hall-of-Fame or through the AMA Swap Meet.  Last year's meet featured over 1,000 vendors hawking their vintage parts, pieces, collectables and more. If that's not enough, catch the AHRMA road racing, vintage motocross, and time trials to fulfill your vintage racing fix.

The AMA has named Triumph, one of the most historic and popular names in motorcycling, as the 2008 AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days Marque of the Year.  Triumph motorcycles will be featured in special displays, events and seminars during VMD.  The Classic Club for 2008 is the North American Laverda Owners Club.

Alright, back on the horse!  Took some off work to make the wife's transition back to work a bit easier (AND TO WORK ON THE BIKE).  Not to mention I dropped my tank, seat and headlight bucket to be painted, it looks like it may be done this weekend!  I doubt everyone will love it, but she will be obnoxious (bling, bling).  Onto some pics:

Ended up putting the shocks together, PVC tubing and 20wt. fork fluid.  Presses the bearing (ALL BALLS) in the triple tree and installing them, fitted clip ons and headlight bucket mount (TTR400, super high quality)

Right Side

Installed the front brake rotor and mounted the front tire..

I do need your help, do you think I should mount the sprocket cover (black) over the chromed sprocket?

My brother is coming over tommorrow night to help my get the bike on jack stand so I can mount the rear tire and pull her off the table!

Looking Great! and Congratz on the young one!  I would like to see the black sprocket cover over the chrome, but I really like blacked out bikes.  Either way you are doing amazing!

Thanks for the complements.  I have been struggling with the guard, keep it off or put it on.

Spokes and nipples are stainless from buchmans, believe it or not I picked them up cheap (half of what they cost from Buchmans) from our buddy Aaron Brimmer...

I like the black! Very nice and I like what you have done with the wheels - look very sharp. Im eager to see how your bike turns out....I like the blacked out look -Id add the sprocket guard with the hint of chrome sprocket showing - otherwise may make the center of the wheel to chromy compared to rest...try it both ways, stand back and decide! ........but either way its going to look good.

cheers

Wow :o

I can't believe I've never seen this thread before, the bike is looking seriously 8) and it's not even finished yet. Definitely a future BOTM contender I think ;D

Personally I'd leave the sprocket cover off (I will with mine) but that's just me :)

I like the way you like to live dangerously ;D  First the newly coated frame balanced on a couple of crates, then the bike perched on the corner of the bench.  I'm belt and braces with that sort of thing, but that's because usually when sh!t happens, it's me it happens too :-\

Trust me Chris I am not that live on the edge guy.  For the picture with the crates, I made sure nothing was going anywhere.  If you look closely when the bike is on the edge of my bench, there is a blue strap holding it down.  Try to be as careful as possible as I do not want to have to fix mistakes.

I hope there is enough black on the bike currently to offset the paint job.  I had the guy lay a silver base down (much like the Buckeye's football helmet if you are familiar), over top of that I had him lay down an obnoxious amount of large and small silver metallic metal flake, then once he cleared that in a 3-4" strip down the middle of the tank and seat with one smaller 1" strip on each side in a translucent orange (so you can still see the flake), on the cowl in the back also in translucent orange will be the rising sun flag and somewhere on the rear of the bike will be the Japanese character for Excess.  Then bury everything in multiple coats of clear, so it makes it pop and look deep.  Hopefully it turns out well, took me forever to decided or find a painter (found him on the Jockey Journal).

OK, here are a few pics of the paint finished!  I was unable to pick them up this weekend due to the 20+ inches of snow we received, but will get them this weekend and get some better pics!

Hope you like!

After reading your description of the paint I thought you were crazy.  But that turned out really good.  It's going to look great on your bike.

Thanks for all of the compliments, it was hard not to go get them this weekend.  With over 20 inches of snow I needed to shovel quite a few driveways and pick up the wife's dad and his wife from the airport (Jeep) late Sat. evening!

The sun logo is actually the rising Sun Naval ensign (with a few changes), flown by ships of the Imperial Japanese Navy (1889–1947) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (1954–present).  Thought it would add a nice little touch to the Jap bike!

I dig the metal flakes.

OK, so I picked up my painted pieces this morning and they are incredible.  For anyone interested here is the info of the painter:

Image One High Performance Art
Joel Hauenstein
(419)308-8397
overdriveplus@hotmail.com

Here are a few pics in my basement, will probably wait to put them on the motorcycle until it is ready.

Things still to do:

- mount rear tire
- put controls back together mount them
- mount carbs, K&N pods
- powder coat oil tank (scratched oil tank in garage) and front fender
- put front brake back together and install stainless lines
- install foot pegs
- run gas and oil lines
- install new coils and wires (any suggestions?, 836 big boar, mild cam, head work)
- wire bike

So not too much more left, pretty excited!!
