Dear God Man!

That is some fine work!

Why do I have to work?  Why can't I just live in my garage and tinker on my bikes?  Isn't there some foundation that will grant me a fellowship to rebuild motorcycles?  I'm sitting here reading this thread and I'm just aching to get the hell out of the office so I can build something even one/tenth as cool as this.

Void909, that rotor was drilled in the exchange program up at Cycle Exchange, Ken does nice work!

Thanks for the kind words Andy, I am pretty pumped to see the whole damn thing together.  Having a hard time waiting....

I hear you about that, I work way too much and do not have enough times for my hobbies (this project started 10/06).  I doubt this would be as much fun if you did it full time though.

Been working on the exhaust a bit over the last couple weeks.  I ended cutting off 2" of the pipe where it mounts into the engine, had the ends flaired to use original mounting spickets.  Cut an 1 1/2" out of the head piped so the collector tucks back up under the frame.  Big thanks goes out to Jesse and Greg...

bgfootball,

Sorry if you've already discussed it, but what type of paint did you use for the cylinders?  Is it gloss or flat?  Do you like how it came out?

Hopeterfixer, I can not wait to hear it either!!!  Trying to make a push to get her together and running!

Bunghole, the paint on the head is a satin black, not true gloss or flat.  Can not remember the brand off the top of my head.  Need to go back and touch some areas up once I am getting ready to roll.

KBO2, I changed the way they mount to the head because I am picky and like the stock look better.  I wish they would have tucked up under the frame better too, but it was fun cutting them up, welding them and grinding them.

Now off to sanding them down and hitting them with some 2000 degree paint and then the thermatech header tape I picked up at Jegs.  That stuff cost more than I thought.....

Here is this weekends progress, was able to get pipes painted, wrapped and installed.  Put chain on bike, tach and speedo cable.  I ended up puting the body work on so I could get a feeling where I want the handle bars.  Enjoy the pics.  I need to get this damn thing running now, spent most of the afternoon just stairing at her.....

Waiting on custom clutch and throttle cables, front brake pads, CRG lane splitter mirror, trying to get a cool fork brace from spec 2 and wiring then done.  Anyone here have any good suggestions for a cool fork brace that will work on my 73 CB 750?

"Anyone here have any good suggestions for a cool fork brace that will work on my 73 CB 750?"

When the tire is higher than the top of the fork leg, we seem to be limited to the fork brace which was actually part of the original fender. One interesting twist on that I read in a post on the forum, was to use two such braces. Slott the holes in one so it can be mounted over top of the original. Sandwich a fender in between.

A "tweek" bar mounted just below the lower triple clamp will help take out some tube flex as well. In the old days, some guys would take a lower triple clamp, press out the stem, and weld it to the existing triple clamp giving a double clamp effect to the tubes. On our old skinney tube bikes, firming up the tube flex was as important as holding the lower legs together.

Gorgeous build!  Any close-up pics of the super-sanitary battery box setup?  It's great that you didn't cut the frame brace.  Thanks!  RR

I can't see the pics from my DOD computer, I'm just "marking the spot" so I can find it again when I get home. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Ha ha, well that bike looks great mate, you've done well! I love your blue Suzy with the early GSXR wheels and front end, I did that with one of mine years ago, I wish I'd kept it! (now if you need to get those left over GS1000 parts from your chopper build out of your garage, you can always send them to me............)  ;D

bg that is museum quality good, you should be very proud (witch i'm sure you are)

i gotta tell ya, i wasn't very fond of the rising sun (i understand the significance, just didn't care for it)   but seeing it on the bike, getting the "big picture" .   man i'm sold, ... i want one

i love it , you covered all the bases:
   1. it looks mean
   2. it looks super clean
   3. you've got tons of original work, done buy you (for the most part)
   4. it just LOOKS fast
   5. i'm betting it sounds mean as hell (the kind of exhaust that scares old people and little kids as you ride by)
   6. and finally , a totally original, totally sick paint job

well done my friend ,well done
enjoy your BOTM honors (you know your gonna get them)

Hi Everyone thank you for the kind words about my build.  I am pretty stoked to finally put the finishing touches on her the next couple of weeks.  The guys that rebuilt my engine are fabing a custom wiring harness as we speak an then are going to do the final tune on the engine/carbs...

Terry, I will let you know about the GS chopper build, I am going to try and reuse as many as the original pieces as possible...

Spikey, I would be very honored if this bike won BOTM awards from this group, especially with all the killer bikes that have won in before.  I am digging how the bike is turning out, if I had to do all over I would change a few things but for the most part I am happy..  The biggest thing is I wish I had more time...

No good pics of the old lady on the bike, she has not really road for the last two years.  Once she found out she was pregnant she put up the keys to her Harley.  In the last two years my little brother and I are the only ones to fire her up for any good rides.  I did recently get her out on her bike for a B-day ride!

I did find a brace out of Germany, Telefix.  It is going to take a few weeks to get here and cost an arm and a leg, but I will let you guys know how it turns out.  They have 3 American dealers, Spec II and Bob's BMW had piss poor service.  Irfan at Wild Hair Customs hooked me up the same day, good stuff.....

My plan is to wrap everything up and have her finished by Vintage Days so I can enter her in the cafe show on Saturday.  I doubt I am going to be able to be there the entire weekend, but am looking forward to hanging out a bit.  Getting ready to switch jobs so not quite sure what is going to be expected in the new position.....

Masonaryman, not heard of the event you are speaking of.  Are you talking about the rally they have at the factory?  I actually no longer live in Dayton, moved to Columbus almost two years.  I still work in Dayton until the July 11th, but then to Columbus.  Can not wait to start saving on gas and get back 2 hours and 20 minutes of my time every day!
