« on: July 24, 2005, 09:13:39 PM »
hello everyone who matters!   my drain screws won't stop  letting gas out.  the o rings were shot so i replaced them  and the tips of the drain screws were a bit nasty, so i cleaned them with carb cleaner.  still getting some dripping out of a couple of the nipples ???  what works best for this problem.  should i run all the nipples to one shutoff valve and then to a drain hose or what?  any help will be appreciated. i will be posting and searching this site more now that my bike is almost ready for the road. thanks luke

HA had the same problem fellow k7er.  its a good chance the leak is actualy between the brass overflow tube and aluminum carb bowl.

How can you check?  easy.  take off the bowl and tighten the drain screw.  Fill the bowl with water and run compressed air (i used a hand blower thing with rubber tip, regulated @ 30psi)  into the overflow tube (one inside the carb, not nipple).  It should flow free out the nipple, so put your thumb over the nipple to keep the air from comming out.  See the bubbles come up between the bowl and tube?  thats where gas is seeping in and then out!

Heres how i fixed it.
1. clean the area as best as possible.  Hard to do i know.
2. Heat (lightly 100-150degs with torch) and put a tiny bit of gorrila glue into where the tube meets aluminum.  The heat will help it flow better into the joint.  Make sure to get completely around the tube.  Keep glue from getting into the very bottom where the drain screw base is.  Use enough, but not too much, as the glue will expand.
3. Let dry.  You might see a bit of glue expansion but as long as it doesnt get on the drain plug part, itll be fine.

It stopped my leakin and the drain works fine.
