Has this been done?
« on: November 27, 2007, 04:54:41 PM »
Anyone ever seen this. Probably impractical but would look mean as hell, if it doesn't imbalance the bike and tip it over :)

I'm hoping to do something almost identical to your idea on my build but 2 on each side. Thats another mystery I have to contend with: where to have pipes made. I don't think too many muffler shops have mandrel benders. Who's into making pipes when my time comes??

1. It doesn't clear the oil filter
2. It doesn't clear the oil drain plug
3. The ground clearance is greatly reduced.

Yea....but it looks cool.  ::) :D

I find the "cooler" something looks, the less practical it is.  Take women for instance.........just kidding.  ;)

If that was a horse, they'd put it out of its misery with a quick shot.

RXManGriff you can buy prebent tubing sections online if you want, such as 90s, 45s and straight sections. Canadian Tire has them too, not sure if they have 1 3/4" tubing though.

I agree - that chop is actually pretty sweet - can't say that I dig the paint scheme, but it looks like some decent craftsmanship. Could use a 16" rear & 21" front - but hey, what do I know?

Dammit! If only I was a welder  :-\ I should find a short course on welding. It would sure help my project out. I'd sure like to learn how finshed chromed pipes come out looking so good and smooth after all that welding. I just can't see it.

solidworks, eh? nice work. if you made them go into a collector like the 400F that would look mean. speaking of cad stuff...

check this video out. a guy built an entire CBX engine using cad.

5:40 - i went in my pants :) almost as sexy as the billet chev 350 being carved out on the crazy japanese CNC mill. I've also designed a gas tank and seat using solidworks. very simple, requires no real sheet metal skills, one dimensional bending so i think i can do it.

No sheetmetal skills..??

... just fitting and welding.. and the worse you do that the more bondo you use...

its easier than forming but still requires quite a bit of skill to do even a halfway decent job..

I'd bet any auto custom exhaust shop will have a pipe bender/former and they can do about anything you want. I had custom SS exhaust done for the Vette at a shop out by the IMS.

Yeah, they can but if you want it done right they need to have a mandrel bender. This piece of equipment eliminates the indented areas at the bends. This is a custom piece of equipment thats not so easy to locate.
