parts compatibility 069-A and 022-A
« on: November 28, 2007, 09:31:50 PM »
I'm looking for a rack of carbs to use for parts for my '76cb550K having 087-A's and have available a set from a 77 550F, which would be 069-A if it follows the charts.  I see from the charts in the carb faq that they have the minimum different main jets, jet needles, and air screws, but I'm wondering if they use the same floats, throttle slides, carb bodies.  The bodies look similar and they use the same 22mm float setting but I was hoping to replace the floats in my rack as they've got dimples rubbed in from the float needle sometimes stopping the float from rising.  If the slide cutaways are different from the 069's will they still slide into an 087-A body?  (there has been some discussion about the 087-A, and it seems to be a near 022-A clone of sorts)  Two Tired, I have learned many a tip from reading your replies to these obscure carb question threads so thank you for those and if you help with this one too thanks again.

I have a back burner project to thoroughly measure the parts in my 500/550 carb banks.  I'm just not done yet.

But, as near as I can tell all parts interchange between the 627, 022, 087, and 069.  As I understand it, the number stamping coincides with the set up of each carb style.
As for needles, check the number stamped directly on them. Preliminary inspection seems they may all use the same needle?

The 069A air screws are solid tipped, the others, not.

As far as I know all the floats are the same for the above carbs.   I don't know for certain about the slide cutaways.  I simply haven't checked that.  But, I will add that to my back burner measurement project.  So far, the only difference I've found between 022A and 087A is some screws on the float bowls are larger.  But, my only 087a set has been dismantled before and they may have been buggared.  ::)
Hope this helps.

Cheers,
