CB500 clutch issues
« on: April 08, 2005, 10:17:21 PM »
I have a 75 CB500. I've had to adjust the large screw in the side of the transmission several times. I know how the adjuster works, but this has me baffled, and a bit afraid. I'll go out for a ride, and it'll shift fine. It'll stop in gear and idle fine at just under 1K. After a while, be it a day or a week, it'll start stalling at lights. It gets hard to downshift. I loosen the clamp bolt and turn the adjuster, and it works fine for a while.

Also, the clutch lever won't pull back all the way. I'm thinking it may be the lever on the backside of the adjuster hitting the case. I think I'm running out of adjustment. What can I do? My Clymer manual is of no help in this situation.
Thanks.

It could be that the ball bearing in the adjuster mechanism has developed a flat on it also the slot in the adjuster has to be within a certain distance of a mark on the cover and finally a "modified" adjuster was fitted the complete kit part number being 22800-323-305 with just the modified adjuster being 22841-323-000
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Well, I was wondering if I have the adjustment wrong. I've been sick for about a week, and I was sick for a week before that. In that one day of wellness I went for a ride, and the clutch started this. I've been going over it in my head, so I really ought just to get out there and see what I have to work with. I was considering some kind of spacer. I can't remember whether the adjuster is a thread type or ball. Guess I should just go tear it apart again.

Thanks.
