iPod Charging
« on: November 23, 2007, 09:52:58 AM »
How can  I charge a MAC formatted IPOd via USB on a PC? I want to listen to the iPod at work through some JBL travel speakers. When I connect it to my work PC with a USB cable through an iTrip Radio Adapter the iPod tries to Sync with the PC and all it does is flash "Do Not Disconnect". I know I can't sync it and I don't want to. I just want to keep the battery topped off. Any help?

Vince,

Easiest way to use it on both is to format it for PC.  Backup your music using a utility like podutil (it takes the music back off your ipod), reformat it for PC, and readd your music to it.  It seems PC's don't like Mac formatted ipods, but it works w/o issues the other way.

Also, it won't show the charging icon when connected to a computer, only when you have it plugged in to the wall.  It will show the sync display, but will be charging as well.

I haven't replicated your issue directly.  But, as long as the ipod is plugged into a powered USB jack, it should receive power for charging.

The disconnect message ought to just cease when you tell whatever application that is activated to eject the ipod.

Make sense?

The EASIEST solution is to buy a USB Power Adapter from the Apple store.  It only cost $30 and you can charge the iPod no matter where you are (as long as you have an A/C outlet that is!)

What are you doing out of the shameless boost thread 333? Now go on, back you go..................  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
