CB500 prices out of control

Any Idea what I should be looking to spend on a 1971 or 72 CB500. I initially thought I could by a nice one for about $2200. after looking at a couple of price guides. However, these things are scarce if in nice condition! I am amazed at what people are asking. I wonder if they are selling them or just advertising them and not getting any bites. I don't mind paying the going rate however, I don't want to get taken for a ride so to speak. I live in the New England if that make any difference! Any help would be appreciated as I want to purchase one soon!

Someone just got a deal then. I just sold my 72 500 for $350.00 with clean title. Right Heffay :)

Collectibility is driving it. Once the first issues of the CB750s (read sandcast) have gone through the roof, people will move onto the next in line. The first years for the CB500s are getting big bucks for prime examples of them. I've watched several go for prices lately that would have bought 3 or 4 just a few years ago.
