Figures- I see another sohc4 for just the second time in over a year of nearly daily commuting and I'm in the cage.

Was it anyone here?

Wasn't me.  I hate that road.  I go to great lengths to avoid it, especially on 2 wheels.  More sand and dirt thrown up in my face, and I use a full face helmet!!  The way I see it is, there is always an alternative.  Having lived here all of my 50 years certainly gives me an advantage.  If this is your daily commute, I'd be glad to help you map out an alternate route.

G.W.Parkway is my favorite inside the beltway.

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of being on the beltway either.  Given my commute, I've found that probably 80% of the time, it's the fastest way to go.  I live in the the city by Union Station and work out in the White Oak area of Silver Spring.  So I'm generally heading in the opposite direction as the rest of the traffic.

When my work moved out here (used to be in Rockville) I spend a fair amount of time reading maps and have a number of more (much more) enjoyable routes figured out.  For my riding in the winter, I'm more concerned with arriving in a relativily unfrozen state and arriving quickly is a priority.

What I could really use is someone who has a good knowledge of the more "recreational" roads in the area.  I've been exploring, but a occasional riding partner in the summer would be fab.

I could ask my buddy... He lives in silver spring and has quite decent knowledge of the area.

While I can navigate Maryland, my forte is Virginia.  And I don't get out often enough.  West is best is what a friend says, and I tend to agree.  When spring arrives, we'll get together.
