It was just an idea I had that maybe we should have another SOHC trip like the SOHC Easy Rider trip 2004 that was a big success. I had thought a "Ride the Rockies tour" in August 2008 but as yet nothing is firm and I may have to postpone it till 2009 depending on my current job search. Of course that dosent stop any of you organising something  ;D

Its very easy...have an idea....put idea out there....people sign up....meet and go ride. This was how it happened for the 2004 trip. Had 10 guys sign up from across America and Europe. We all met for first time (mostly) and went riding for 16 days. Great experience and was cheap (apart from transporting bike from Boston to LA). I think I spent $750 for those 16 days...mostly on beer  ;D

cheers

Medic

Andy and I had basically only mentioned the possibility but it does sound good, huh?! I'm up for it if we could pull it off. Those (and you'll notice I didn't say these, meaning I'm working PRN at my discretion and am not including myself) damn jobs sure screw things up don't they?! No firm plans. The way I figure it the Rockies as we US guys know them extend from the Canadian border in Montana aka Glacier Park (amazing place) to your place (ParT at Medic's! FREE beer on Medic) with a multitude of fantastic places and rides inbetween plus many members homes to crash in. During the past 5 years I've ridden alot of this but not all YET  ;D  Now, I must propose that we make this an international rally by crossing the border into Waterton International Peace Park which is just a few miles and KM from Glacier and an "absolutely gorgeous can't miss it if you're this close" kinda place. Get your passports ready provided you don't have any felonies  ;)! Anyway, I'd better keep this more basic as I could go all day! For me it would be one big loop, woohoo  :D. I could map out some possible routes. Not everyone would do a big loop. Our Canadian (or is it Canadien?) buddies could meet us in Waterton and ride as far as they wanted. Anyone could meet up along the way and ride some or do the whole thing. So far we have 2 stops for partying, showering and sleeping - your's and mine.

Anyway, at this point it's a dream that I'd like to see happen. Whether this coming year or next. The routing and trip planning are the easy part. It's getting everyone together and agreeing on dates and having time to do this that would be the most difficult. Keep in mind this would extend over say 15 to 20 days total. Probably only a few could do the entire ride but many could do portions and make their own loop. Plus we need to solicit member volunteers along the way for pit stops to make this even better and less expensive. Who's in so far? If there is sufficient interest I'd like to see a sticky post started in our travel section that doesn't get bogged down and lost in the shuffle. Basically a ride planner type of thing that can be tweaked along the way.

Andy

All I gotta say is I'm glad beer hasn't gone up like gas!! Did you see the final price on the 900 kit?!

There was an event in Potosi MO this year for BMW bikes - they used the lions club park as a campground, and had a poker run etc.
A few of my buds went, and said it was a blast.  People from EVERYWHERE came to it.

i drove through potosi a couple times to go wheeling at st. joe. wow, i've never seen so many auto stores in such a small town.

but yeah, i need to get out of state either this spring or summer. the bike should be done real soon and it needs to remember the road..

Yeah crazy money!! Too much for a poor boy like me.....

Anyway good post on the Rockies trip and lets see what plays out. A "route" map as a starting point may be an incentive....anyone got a Rockies map they can draw on and post?

cheers

I'll try to come up with some idea over the next day or two. I'm not sure about a map however. I have a couple sites I can use then add a link possibly. I'll investigate.

To a question posed earlier...it is Canadian NOT Canadien!!! Les Canadiens (extremely ironic given the seperatist movement) are a NHL team out of Montreal...god damn Habs beat my Leafs last night in a shoot out after OT. Ofcourse pretty much every team has beaten the Leafs this year! And, most of those losses were in a shoot out!!

Hey 754 thanks for reading the story of the Easy Rider trip..... though Im sure you have already lived that trip in your time!

Our trip was uncannily like the movie in that we saw many of the same things seen in the movie....just lacked the rednecks shooting at us and the naked hippy girls  :(. When I posted the trip, about 7 guys were interested/serious and all 7 came and as time got closer they brought 3 of their friends!

We had Tim (SOHC member - TIM2005) fly in from England, Stevie from Scotland, Axl (the Satanic Mechanic) fly in from Germany, Elwood fly his bike over to LA from Virginia and some LA guys (and me from Boston) all meeting up with one thing in common - bikes and riding. It actually worked pretty well all things considered. A few breakdowns along the way but thats what you expect running with 10 SOHC bikes some of which hadnt been the best prepared for the journey  ;)

cheers
Andy

No, I'm not *from* Salmon Arm.  I lived in Vancouver.  Salmon Arm is the place famous in my house as the last place in Canada that I got a speeding ticket.   ::)  Not that I got all that many anyway.

Wife and I were driving through on our way to Massachussetts, and I got pulled over right around that section where the Trans Can basically becomes nearly one lane for a short stretch (or at least it did then).  A real narrowing of the road on a slope, as I recall.

I would be up for a Rockies ride.  I have plenty of room and a well equipped shop if a waypoint is needed in the Boise area.  As far as a route goes, the possibilities are about endless.
