Picture of a totally rust free tank
« on: December 27, 2007, 05:21:45 PM »
I just wanted to post a few pics of a tank I have been soaking in a rust remover called Evaporust. There are other posts regarding this product but I wanted to show how good it works. My son gave me a 5 gallon bucket of it for Christmas so I completely submerged it in the stuff. I've also posted a pic of an oil tank I soaked. I use it all the time and love it. Now...where's my check for the product plug.

Nice!

Do you have to remove the paint or do any de-greasing before you dunk the parts?

Well on this tank I did strip the paint off with a citrus paint stripper first but even after that the bottom of the tank still had surface rust and the inside was rusted also.

What did the stuff do to the two grommets I see on the oil tank?
Looks great btw! Do you have to create a phospate layer inside the tank to keep it from re-rusting?

All best,
Ben

The rust remover did not affect the rubber grommets. The grommets are the original ones, in good shape but getting hard. I plan on removing them before I powdercoat the oil tank. After I get the rust off I just let the rust remover dry leave a film on the tank. In other words just remove the part from the remover and let it dry with no water rinsing. The tank has been stored in a box in my garage since the 27th and has no flash rust at all so far.

Is this stuff caustic; opposite of acid? Usually caustic only eats the oxide not the steel. But eats aluminum.

The label says it is safe for copper, brass, aluminum, galvanization, plastic, rubber or vinyl. It contains no acids or alkalis and is non-corrosive.
