g'day all, have been haveing trouble with my number three carb leaking, and narrowed it down to a faulty new needle and seat, my prob now is that, when i ride the ol girl('77 F1) she is ok till she warms up, then i have trouble getting off lights, its like it bogs down, and it hesitates when you go from a constant low throttle to wanting to acelerate?.
    it seems to get worse the more you ride around. If i stop  and leave it for 5 min, and get on again, its ok, but as you ride more it becomes a problem again.... NE help would be muchly appreciated... cheers

first off i would check to see that all of your fittings are secure.  when i bought my 73 cb350f it ran fine... for bout 2 days then did the same thing yours did.  the 3rd and 4th carb had come loose from the airbox mount.  my biggest problem now is keeping the idle down... mine likes to race up at lights.  i think i may be running too hot and im burning up the fuel too quickly.

Yea, I would check the manifolds to see that they are all snug. If the clamps are bottomed out then some hose clamps from the Auto-store might help. If it falls on it's face whe opening the throttles then that tends to inicate a lean condition. But a chugging type hesitation may be loading up on too much fuel. A lean motor tends to "come to you" as it gets hotter.
Racing at idle is usually a leaky manifold.

You said you had trouble with a float valve. Have you set the float hight on your carbs?
Also check the ignition timimg adjustment, and that the timing advancer is working properly.
That is where I would start before making any adjustments to the carbs.

yeah have checked the manifolds, they are good, i also sprayed some WD40 around the manifolds to see if they were cracked, everything was ok.

    pulled the carbs again today,  cleaned them out , checked float level, and rebalanced, seems to be ok, but havent taken it for a run yet... ran out of time...
 
    My prblem with the float level was i had a defective needle and seat, they were new, so it was the last placed i looked, replaced it with one of the old seats and needles i had and everything is cool.

     my ignition timeing is good, i am running a Dyna 'S' ignition, and lubed the advance mechanism b4 i put it in... will see how it goes tomorrow... thanks for the reply... cheers

Have you checked your valve adjustment - if you just bought the bike chances are that the valves may be adjusted too tight, preventing optimal filling and emptying of the cylinders - gets worse when hot.

I suspect MY motor may be running lean on accelaration, when I twist the throttle hard it just says "Bwwoooooaaaaaaah" and nothing happens, a sort of non-chugging hesitation. if i open the throttle slowly it accelerates slowly. Timing etc is ok, checked yesterday. Not trying to steal this post, but suspect I have the same malady as the original poster.

I agree with you Harry, the valves should be checked. But if the valves are set to tight and they are leaking, you should also get an idle problem. A common problem if the valves are leaking is when you ride the bike at road speed, and pull in the cluth for stopping. Then the bike won't idle. But this problem also developes as the engine is getting hotter, so you might be on to something.

na have had the bike for 5 years... and the valves get checked every 300km.... when i do an oil change.... i noticed something tpday though.... i bumped the kill switch today, and it really started to stuff up.... think i might have a dicky switch... i use it alot...which i s'pose is not a good thing... am going to by pass the switch and see if it makes any difference.... has anybody else had any similar problems...

cben750f1, the kill switch is well worth checking. If you have a bad connection here, the power to the coils could be low.

yeah am running electronic ignition.... and everything pans out...... will see how the bypassed switch works.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, bloody 'ell.... i have pulled the bloody carbs about 2 dozen times in the last 6 weeks , this morning i got the #$%*s, and was pulling the coils for the 10th time, when i though to my self...' might stick the ohm meter in the plug caps and check them'.... #1-ok #2-ok... #3... ?... NUMBER3?....   aaaaaahhhhhh  >:(it was a plug cap the hole bloody time.... the cap was reading open circuit!!!!!!!!!... put an old cap on the i measured to be ok.....VROOOOOOOM, no miss... NO FUSS.... took it for a ride..VROOOROOOROOOOO   ROAR!!!... .i am still haveing troubl enot crying through frustration.... leason learned.... start small and work up....
