Yeah, you don't want one of those piddly things Sammy, get yourself a Vauxhall Monaro, (or a Pontiac GTO in the US) they were designed and built here in Oz and exported to the rest of the world, and your mates at "Top Gear" love it! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, you already know how reliable Hondas are or you probably wouldn't be here.  The Prelude is a small car.  Don't plan on hauling anybody in the back seat.  My 6year old boys barely had room in my Integra (almost the same car).  They are great on gas but still manage to pull out amazing hp per liter.  The after market for the Prelude is great.  Even if you're not planning on tricking it out, there are comparably priced after market parts that will outperform the stock parts, should they happen to need replacement.  Overall, I would recommend one as long as it hasn't been beaten on by some punk kid.

Thanks guys, (apart from Terry ;D ;D ;D ;D) It's an old one, 94 I think he said. It's a 2.3i auto, is as smooth as silk and very responsive.
He has to sell it as he is moving to the States in a few weeks. He wants £650 for it with a twelve month MOT on it. (ministery inspection certificate)
It looks like a sports car to me Rocky ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) super sleak lines and no room in the back unless you are a legless midget. ;D ;D

Hey, I might add what's already been said, it is a Honda so should be
reliable or as you Brits say, "boring"  ;D

I'm surprised your not hunting for a Spitfire or a MG.
As a matter of fact  I have seen both listed in a local trading post today.
I could pick one up for you and you could arrange shipping ;) ;)
At least you wouldn't be bored with one either.

Pretty sharp looking cars, to me anyway. Kinda "Sporty looking". Almost had one a few years back, but the guy sold it out from under me! :P It was a red one with a 5sp trans. Must be a "Senior Moment" cause I can't seem to remember what year it was! :-\ Coulda had some fun with that one, but it just didn't pan out! ::) Let us know how things come out Sam, "Inquiring Minds Want To Know". :D

Man, alcohol will be the death of me, I've been there before Sammy too!

But I agree with RM, why oh why, in a country that invented the "Sports Car" would you want a POS Jap "sports car wannabe"?

Yeah, sure it's a Honda and we all kneel before the Honda alter, blah blah blah, and yeah, it's cheap, but I was watching "Thunder Races" on Foxtel last week and one of the teams bought a 4 wheel drive Cosworth Sierra turbo for 200 squid?

I fugging know what I'd rather have! What about a 1980's V8 Porsche? They're as cheap as chips in the "IOUkay" too, apparently? Now you're talking! ;D

Oh Sam...a Prelude?  :o  Say it ain't so. And it's being called a sports car?  ::) Puh-leaz!  Honda has made a decent attempt at the sports car with the 2000...Why? The engine is damned near a motorcycle engine for one thing...for another it looks like it might actually be a sports car. And from what I've read it handles decently too. The Prelude...thwerpppp. The only Prelude I've ever been in, granted it was an early '80's version...the worst ever, was easily the most uncomfortable thing I've ever been in. Well okay, a Pontiac Fiero...another alleged sports car, might have been worse.

Looking for a Japanese sports car? Find yourself an early Miata. It's classic lines will remind you of a Lotus and it's lack of power will remind you of almost any Brit sports car.  ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for the input guys. I'm not looking for a sports car Japanese or otherwise. It's  just that one of my work mates is selling his Prelude because he is moving to Georgia in the US.
I will be getting a newish car next year and need to plug a gap.
My old Ford won't pass it's anual inspection early next year, and I won't be able to afford the car that I want untill later in the year.
This might do me untill then, its cheap enough.
I travled a couple of hundred miles in my brothers prelude at the turn of the century when I went to get measured for my white leathers.
My brother did hell of a lot of miles in it but, I'm not sure why he sold it, I wasn't able to get in touch with him last night to ask him.
It seemed comfortable enough when I drove it last night but, I didn't drive it above 5 miles.
I'm off line shortly, will let you know how I went on on Monday night.

My brother has one. As you know, it is not very roomy, maybe not as powerful as a mustang, but it is great fun around. Did you notice it has 4 wheel steering? Man, taking corners with that car is fun.

Well if he's as old as you Sammy, I guess the only way you could contact him is with a ouija board? I can just imagine it now, "If you reckon that the Prelude is not a gutless Jap tin box, knock three times" ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

parts wise, the preludes were the red headed step child of the honda line.not sure about the mid 90`s models, but the late 80`s into the early 90`s were a #$%* to get parts for and they didnt interchange with any other honda model therefore they were more expensive.

the 94 prelude shares a bunch of bits including the platform from the 97 to 2001 accord. So bits under the bonnet or boot  ;D shouldnt be too much of a problem

It is a HOOD not a bonnet. A bonnet is something a woman wore decades ago....... wait, bonnet does work for british cars since they handle like old women! ;D

Terry, here is one person who has turned his back on the honda cars. I like the bikes but cant stomach the design of the cars.

While I'll pass on most of the range, the Civic Type R and S2000 are very well thought of in the UK.

I call it a hood too.... Lets put it this way... a honda is a honda... One of my favorite cars ever was a little 1986 honda crx.... they run forever as long as you make sure the fluids are right ans you change the oil... Buy it and enjoy it... It will make a fun, dependable interim car for you.

Mr M, one rarely finds someone with much experience with Spitfires actually looking for them.
Miata is a terrific japanese imitation of the MGB.  Bullet-proof engine.  Only has room for lunch and a thermos, very comfortable on long trips, too.  Bad ventilation in inclement weather.  Ton-O-Fun to drive with the top down.

Still- I'd rather have a TR3...

I like Preludes, although I don't consider them a sports car.  Very good-looking tools.

So- what car is it you're waiting to buy?
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

I used to own a '95 2.3i Prelude, went like sh!t off a shovel, and was a barrel of laughs to drive. Plus, being a Honda it never, ever broke, and we didn't half give it some abuse ;D  IMO the model Sam's mate is looking at was a pretty decent stab at a sports coupe, especially when compared to what else was available at the time :)

Man, alcohol will be the death of me, I've been there before Sammy too!

But I agree with RM, why oh why, in a country that invented the "Sports Car" would you want a POS Jap "sports car wannabe"?

Because just as with the motorbikes, the Japs do it better than we Brits ever did ::)  Spitfires, MGBs and the rest are for wankers who'd rather spend their spare time fixing something else that broke (again), or cleaning gallons of oil off their driveways rather than driving the thing ::)

It must have been a complete nail of a car then Terry ;)  Decent 4x4 Cosworths rarely go for less than 5 grand these days :(  Strangely, the supposedly 'inferior' 2wd models sell for far more ::)

I fugging know what I'd rather have! What about a 1980's V8 Porsche? They're as cheap as chips in the "IOUkay" too, apparently? Now you're talking! ;D

With fuel at well over 1.00 per litre, there's a reason big engined cars don't sell to well in the UK these days >:(

PS;  They've started selling the latest 6.0L version of Commodore back in the UK now Terry, although they're still calling it the Monaro.  I had a go of one on my last trip home :o  Awesome just about sums it up ;D
