No papers, have you been there?
« on: November 30, 2007, 02:49:59 PM »
Hi All,
how about some horror stories about registering a bike from out-of-state?

Here in Vermont, if it was registered in Vermont previously = no problem.

I have sold bikes to all neighboring states w just a Notorized Bill of Sale and no one ever had a problem.

peace,
michel

Use international title service.  No hassles whatsoever with Illinois, which can be a pain in the ass sometimes when it comes to getting something registered.  Its $85 to process for our bikes.  IL wanted ~$250 to do the "title correction".

I've done ITS once and it is worth not having to hassle with the local DMV, unless you live in one of those states that don't care.

Otherwise put a dent in the side of a pop beer can and poke holes in it with a pen.   ::)

heh...canada is nice..you just write up a bill of sale and take it down to the licencing office..at the most if its over 500 CC you are gonna have to take it down to the inspection office for them to check the VIN then once it clears that you take it back to the licencing office and get your papers...

As yet unresolved.....

Moved from CA to OR and brought along my '55 GMC.

Back in the day(through mid-70s, actually).... CA would title vehicle by v.i.n. OR engine number.

The numbers on my paper match a block that got scrapped 40 years ago.

oops.

OR dmv wants a 'corrected title' from Sacramento.. I'm damned if I'm driving down there for a stupid piece of paper. Title service it is.

Happy trails.

Oregon is a real pain in the a##, they require original documentation.  THEN, they physically need to verify the VIN on the vehicle.

My 550 originally came without a WA title from a friend of a friend (etc), thought I was going to need ITS or a new frame till he found the title.  Had to use ITS for my H-D X90 that originally came from CA without title and hadn't been registered for 20yrs, and hey, adds another out-of-state MC plate to my garage wall.

I didn't put the plates on the wall. I had done the Y.O.M. thing and sold my nice usable pair of plates for like $150 to some guy down there. He posted me happy feedback then went to dmv. poor bastard. I had spaced the P.N.O. and they wanted like 5 years of back fees before he could register those damned plates. I sent him a form that said I'd sold the truck before the P.N.O. was due. maybe they bought it. I don't know. no complaints after that anyway.

If you thought Oregon was a pain, try California!
