Hi. My name is Ed Sims and I live just west of Indianapolis.
The latest bike is a '77 CB750A which I bought sorta by accident a couple of months ago on eBay.
I brought home a basket-case '76 750 a few years ago and I caught hell every time I mentioned it to my SO. I finally sold it a couple of months ago.
I happened to be watching the 750 auctions on eBay and saw this 750A come up. I bid on it thinking that surely someone else would outbid me. A couple of days later I got the courage to have the "Honey, I may have screwed up" talk with her. She took it real well, which is a good thing because I was the only bidder. Her only concern was if I could hang a hack off it.
The only other bike in the garage is a '71 CB350 twin. Over the years I've owned a couple of 350's, an '85 LTD Wing with a California sidecar, and a couple of 750A's. I have a Government-modified left ankle which makes it difficult to shift gears on some bikes.
Anyway, we got the bike home and determined that even though it's in great condition, it's not all stock. The seller said it needed to have the carbs rebuilt, but it starts and runs great. I just have to turn off the fuel valve when I stop it. I think regular applications of Sea-Foam may help this. I didn't notice until I got it home that it doesn't have an air box.
It has an electronic ignition but I'm not sure of the manufacturer. It doesn't look like the current Dyna offerings.
It also has an air-adjust front end. I know the bike didn't get on the boat in Japan with this, but it does look as if it was made by Honda. The front caliper is siezed pretty tight and it's missing the short steel tube which screws into the caliper body.
I'll post some pictures later. In the mean time, if anyone has an air box assembly or that little tube for the brake hydraulics, I'm in the market.
Glad to be here.
