1969 CB750
« on: December 03, 2007, 02:41:29 PM »
I was contacted earlier today about a 1969 CB750 that thus person is interested in selling. (I had placed an ad in craigslist).

I haven't spoken to her yet, so I don't really know what I am going to be looking at. Hopefully it will be mostly a complete bike. Whether or not it is titled doesn't matter to me.

I understand that there are two versions of the '69 CB750; one sandcast (it was the early production model I presume) and the 'other' one which I guess is less desirable and worth less money.

I guess I am not really asking questions, but if anyone has any advice or suggestions before I go to see the mystery bike in question I would appreciate it!

Wish me luck  ;).... Maybe it is a barn find!

Can you find out the VIN? If less than 7415 it's sandcast provided the engine is original as well.

Look out for engine case damage from the chain.  If the price is reasonable and it is a 69, dont let it get away..

It isn't a sandcast. I didn't expect so, but I hoped!  ::)

As it turns out, the entire bike is disassembled. The engine is overhauled (according to the seller) and hasn't ever been run since. Hmmm.

He says he has all the parts, and the tank, both fenders, and everything else I saw looks to be in good shape - esp. the tank.

He's asking $100 with no title. No decision yet.

What's the prob??? 199 is peanuts for the parts! Ideally you'll be able to resurrect it but if it truly is pooched there is far more than $100 in parts...tank, carbs seats etc will fetch far more than that!

I agree. Many of the parts would be suitable for use on any K0, including a sandcast. You could always part it out and advertise them as "sandcast" parts just like very other nitwit does on eBay.

Yep, I am buying it next week. In fact, I may be able to get the price down to $50 or $75.

In a way, I am glad it is already disassembled because with no title, I probably will just part it all out.

What, you would not put a bit of effort in to trying to register it and bring the value up hundreds of dollars??

Always boggles my mind to see someone looking at possibly a G-note or more of parts and they .. gee lets offer them less!!  Do it.. with a bit of luck it will backfire and they will list it on ebay, and you can watch it go for tens times that..

I have bought countless things online, in person at garage sales, estate sales etc. If the guy balks at a lower offer, then I will pay his $100.

Sheez, everyone's a critic. It seems to me that you are just pissed because you weren't the one who stumbled across it. Sour grapes don't go well with your outfit.  :D

Around here in the wilds of Wisconsin price haggling is an expected part of the transaction and if you don't haggle the other person thinks you are some rich idiot from the cities. I guess it's accepted tradition here but maybe not everywhere.

Pawn business aside, I have never sold anything that there has not been a counter offer. Almost seems rude not to. If those carbs are not the four cable type, could be interested. ;)

The RZ I purchased about a year ago. Owner stated new overhauled engine. <GRIN> I knew it wasn't right because just kicking the engine over with kick starter was way too easy.Still I took the bike, when I got it home I got out the compression guage...  That pretty much told the story...

Ok it's not 69.. What is it?

Just remember to ask more than you really want for them so you can accept his counteroffer....

It is a '69, but not the early production (sandcast). I don't have the vin written down, but I checked it against the cut off numbers that were given to me in here.
