Topic: Deliverance--The Sequel ?

RailBiking in southern Maryland.
It's hunting season--shouldn't be out there.
Way out in the woods, railbiking buddy and I came up on
4 hunters armed to the teeth.
They were towing a 4-wheeled rail rider which had a dead deer on it.
Spoke briefly--They wondered what and why we were out there--not too friendly.
We turned around and got outta there.
Sorry no pics--this was not a photo-op.!

Sort of reminds me of a hunting trip (small game) myself and some friends made to the Catskills when I was still living in New York. We were in our late teens. It was during deer season. As we strolled across one field nestled in a valley, we were chatting back and forth. At one point we heard a shot (I believe to get our attention), definitely not small bore, and about 8 deer hunters came out from behind trees surrounding the valley. Every one of them cussing us. Since we were both out-gunned and out-numbered, we nonshalontly made our exit.

A few years ago a lady had a horse shot from under her near here (Roanoke) whilst out riding.

That same year I was training a big gray horse (to be a heavy hunter), King Phillip was his name, in honor of King Phillip that belong
to Genr'l Forrest and hated yankees. Anyway, whilst riding this big ol 1400 pound 17 hand Gray through the
woods I came upon a hunter. He said he thought it was a moose coming throught the woods. I was on a woods road mind you
but it kinda made me stop and think a bit about woods riding in the peak of hunting season.

Yep, I also thought about whether gerhead kept some part of the story for themselves.... you know, whether they could sit after that.

FWIW, I just watched "deliverance" a few weeks ago for the second time. First time I saw it I was 16 or so -20 years ago- and didn't understood it, I was so shocked by the rape scene that lost the rest of the movie. I also recently saw another movie that was in my "to do" list for much time, "straw dogs". What a great movie, even taking aside whether the girl enjoyed or not -don't want to spoil the plot even when I guess that, if only for the average age of the forum members, most of you have already seen it-. I think the plot is very similar, how to cope with harassment on an hostile environment.

I've seen "Fight club" with Edward Norton and Brad Pitt. You mean an earlier version? The one I talk about doesn't seem to have any relationship with "Deliverance" or "Straw dogs"....

Rural people have always made me nervous. I can;t read them as I can City folk. When I travel into the "country" I always pack heat. I ran into some survivalists up in the mountains a few years ago. Having a team of 14 backups allowed me to retire gracefully.

Now ya see Rock. I can take that two ways. However, I feel fairly comfortable down South. I and my girlfriend went deep into So Carolina in 1967 with NY plates to take a look that her family's former Plantation. Got stopped about every 2 hours. When we got where we were going we were well recieved. The local Police Chief explained they figured we were civil rights workers. He gave us a letter stating we were not "troublemakers" and the young Lady was a direct decsendant of Col. Thomas E. W CSA. I still got stopped, but I was sent on my way with a nod.
