Sleeves
« on: December 22, 2007, 12:47:43 PM »
Can someone run me through the procedure for removing the piston sleeves and pressing in new....I know,I know, don't try this at home. ;)
I'm just curious as to what a shop would need to do when new sleeves are required.
Thanks

Warm an oven up to 375 deg..
wait about 30 minutes, wear oven mitts and push them out.

Try to find a shop oven somewhere or  you may be living in the shop..

When you reinstall support the cylinder, push them in and hold them down while they cool.

heating them will really allow you to push them out by hand?

You then have to surface the block.  Gonna need a Bridgport in the kitchen too, to handle that part.

When the new sleeves are installed and the block has cooled off, you need t6o press the sleeves on down. They will drop .004 - .005". If you go ahead and surface it without doing this, they run the risk of dropping when the motor heats up.
