Best wife ever! Surprised me with my 1st bike - SL70
« on: December 09, 2007, 06:03:34 AM »
My first and probably the best bike that I have ever had was a '72 Honda SL70 when I was 9 or 10. I bought it used for $75, which my father made sure that I had.  That's how he got around the technicality of him not buying me a motorcycle that my mother imposed.  I absolutely loved that thing and have regretted selling it for 25 years.  Long story short, two years ago one of my wife's friends brings her grandfather's near mint condition SL70 to me to see if I can get it running for them.  It had been sitting for at least 10 years and all it needed was the carb cleaned and the tank flushed.  Honestly started on first kick when I was finished.  Runs and looks almost new.

I was surprised with that bike yesterday by my wife for Christmas!!!
I can't believe that they parted with it, but they knew how much I wanted it.  This is the second motorcycle that my wife has surprised me with during our marriage.  The first was a new Sportster in 2001.  Women like her are hard to find, but if you find one - keep her!  She is almost as big of a bike nut as I am.
Merry Christmas!

Which color did you get? Does it have the optional speedometer installed? You're a lucky man. :)

It is the red with yellow accents and yes it has the optional speedometer with only 710 miles on it.  The one I grew up with was the blue with white accent, but this one is cool also.
