4ls brake on a CB750
« on: December 03, 2007, 12:50:05 PM »
Anyone mate a Suzuki GT750 4 leading shoe brake to a Honda CB750? Ideas on how to make this work? Is it a bolt-on solution or hell-on-earth fab nightmare?

I won't ask you why because variety is the spice of life they say!

First better check the axle will fit, then you'll need some sort of brake stay. If you're using stock Honda fork legs that will be an issue. Tintin found a weldor to make this kind of mod for him but not everyone will weld on a fork leg. You can probably use the Suzuki lever and perch/switch, maybe even the cable if you're lucky. I'm sure Buchannans can set you up with correct spokes to lace up to whatever rim you decide on. Maybe you're planning a complete front-end graft are you?

This was a good enough braking system, guys look for them for their old race bikes, but only for that period machine. They take attention and as time progressed even the buffalo wore a disc!

Both the 1972 "J" GT550 and GT750 have the four leading shoe brake.
The axle diameter is the same (15mm -they use the same bearing -6302) as the honda and the fork leg diameter is the same (35mm).

The  GT750 distance/gap between fork legs is 150mm and the distance between fork legs for the GT550 brake is 140mm. The difference is that each backing plate has 5mm machined of for the GT550.

The double cable perch is picked up easily on eBay from people like Paul Miller, usually about $40-$50.

Suzuki use 36 spoke wheels where as Honda use 40 spoke rims, so you will not be able to use a Honda rim on a Suzuki brake/hub

Let me know if you want more dimensions as I have both Suzuki 550 and 750 brakes at home, as well as Honda forks etc

Actually the Suzuki drum brake uses a 6202 bearing and it is the GT750 disc brake wheel which uses the same 6302 as a CB750, but both are 15mm ID

Thanks Clyde,
Is there are place I can find some detailed specs on the CB750? My bike is in pieces so I can't just go out an measure. I'd like to see if the GT750 brake will fit between the CB750 forks.
