What type of gasket sealer  product do I need for my CB750 Engine case halves?
What is everyone using?
On the K6 engine I am working on now some one had used red silicone. What a mess trying to remove all the blobs of silicone. There must be a better product.
All the manuals I read said use gasket sealer but give no product name except one said use Form-A-Gasket by Permatex. It is black stuff that is messy and non hardening.I dont like it either.

Hondabond - available at any dealer.  Its very easy to work with and I've never had a leak problem with it.

Hondabond, YamaBond, 3Bond 1104....al the same. I think Terry said the 3Bond has changed the number designation a little.

They should have some on the shelf with the brake fluid, fork oil, polish, threadlock, etc.  I would be very surprised if they didnt know what it was!

Is there a gasket as well, or si this one of those places you just use sealer?  If there's a gasket, I usually have excellent luck with the aerosol spray-on copper stuff.  Anywhere I have a gasket that has teh potential for excess sealer to get into passages and things I use the spray-on copper.  It's on my cover gaskets, the intake for my vette engine, etc.  With spray-on stuff you hang the gasket from a coathanger or two and spray a couple coats to each side, letting it get just a little tackey between each coat, then put it in place while the last coat is still tacky.  Holds it in place great, and with spray-on stuff there's no chance of using too much and having ti squirt out places.  JMO.

If there's no gasket, then 1104 is good stuff.  Clean the surfaces with acetone or denatured alky.  Then apply a VERY thin coat to both mating surfaces, wiping off the inside and outside areas.  When it gets a litle tacky, slap the two parts together and finger tighten the stuff.  Let it sit a couple hours til the 1104 stops being a liquid and becomes rubbery.  Then torque as usual.  Torquing parts down before the sealant has a chance to setup to the rubbery consistency is how you get it squirted into the engine.  It also is more likely to leak if it doesn't setup first.  Again, JMO.
