rating system like ebay?
« on: August 23, 2005, 04:50:45 PM »
I just sold a seat cover to Dale and he had what i thought was a good idea.

He was pleased with the quick shipment and I was pleased with quick payment.

Dale said it was to bad he couldn't leave "feedback".

If there was a way to leave "feedback" I would have left a good note as well for him.

nothing huge...just a rating system and a limited space for "notes" Maybe  we could be listed by our SOHC4 names or whatever.

Just an Idea.

One method is to start a 'Feedback' forum, and then each person becomes a thread.  Experiences can then be posted under that person's thread.

An example:

Roule comme dans les années 70...   Roll as in the Seventies...

Just thinking about this. Obviously the guy who scammed you was looking for an opportunity, but I have never heard of that occurring to anyone else. It may have I don't know.
When I first came to the old board it was because I was looking for small, hard to source items. I was welcomed and a couple of people just gave me stuff!
So, I'm wondering just how often these scams are attempted or actually occur.
I'm not trying to discourage anyone from giving feedback, just sort of thinking outloud.
Besides that it's always good to be able to give the "other" guy a pat on the back in public for a job well done!

It is possible that someone could register on the site, scam for a while and then never come back (or deregister if it's possible).  The number of posts is a fair indication of someones interest and/or commitment to the site.  Someone like Bob Wessner for example is responsible for nearly one in every 20 posts!  This may be seen as dicriminatory against new members who have to build up their post-count, but so's the feedback system on eBay.

As a Moderator of course, the last thing I want to encourage is loads of stupid posts to artificially increase a rating!

If you look at the Key Stats box, you can see that we have 1301 members, but the latest member (BlueThumb) is number 1362 - so 61 people have registered and then left.

Jeez, sorry about that. Most of them came during the period when I was helping Glenn sort and move old threads. Pretty tedious at times so I would flip over here for a break now and then.

I consider myself new here. and I am willing to earn the trust of the people that partisipate in this forum.

it wouldnt be a perfect system but...it would be something to look at and make a more informed desision.

I dont think there would be a lot of junk post pushing ones "grade" up. after all we could see who posted them.

im on another forum, but thats a custom drum building forum. Ive been on there for about 4 years, and have over 3,000 posts. by the way, if anyone wants a custom snare drum built, check out my site www.area51drums.com (shameless plug)

I do alot of trading and buying from members. I basically will not do a deal with someone unless they have been on the board for a while, and have a decent amount of posts. Even at that, i have lost a few good friends by doing business transactions with them that went sour, basically i pay them for something then never hear back from them, and dont get what i paid for for months. These are people i talked with every day, for years. You can never tell how someone is just by how many posts they have, or how long you have known them. Some of the biggest flakes are people we know everyday, and would not know that until our first business deal goes down with them. Business deals and friendships should definitely be kept seperate if possible, or at least only deal with someone you know you can trust.  I am usually super reliable, and when someone pays me i ship the stuff out the next day via fed ex then send them a tracking number. But...lately i need to send a member here something i promised them (the cruise control) but i havent done it cause i keep forgetting. no he didnt pay for it, but i offered it to him for free. I just keep forgetting. So by that, im saying a feedback thread is helpfull.
