what parts off other CB's will fit my 79 650
« on: December 20, 2010, 04:53:12 PM »

hey all newer here and been sitting on my 79 650 for just about a year , I am anting to rebuild it into a cafe bike . Wanting to know if parts off any 750 's are interchangeable to the 650 . primarily looking at rotors , wheels , seats , forks . any other misc. would be helpful as well . Seem to be able to find parts for 750's much easier than the 650 .

 Thanks any help helps.

There's a useful webpage from a motorcycle parts dealer in the Netherlands. In the the past I have been able to insert the part no. required and the search will include any compatible part from other models. Give it a go.

Hi - I'm on the same mission (CB650 cafe racer on its way) and hitting the same problem as yourself.

Babbits site is a bit better than the Dutch for cross referencing one I think:

http://www.babbittsonline.com/honda-motorcycle-parts

The other trick is to just google the part number and see what bikes are linked to that number.

I've tried a few other tricks e.g. got a Renegade fork brace for mine which was originally fitted to a CBX1000 by using another fork brace website that listed the fork dimensions.

With enough patience it isn't all that hard to find bits, I have spent numerous hours digging through bits at the local bike wreckers, the front calipers off of a cx500 fit but they look different to the origionals IMO they look bette, the rotor for the alternator out of a cb900 fits, the reg/rec out of a cb750 fits but you do need to change a plug, a lot of the bits out of the cb550 fit because the 650 was built on the same tooling as the 550, this is my experience with these old girls, but I cannot enphasise enough that having a good relationship with the local wrecker is the most important part of doing up these old bikes, Ross at Tiaro Motorcycle Wreckers has been a godsend to me.

I saw one bike that was using the 550 case, had 650 heads and  bores with a bit of the highth shaved off. It is definitely more a closer cousin to the 550/500's than the 750 species.
