Andy,
This is like Alex Haley's Roots for you, isn't it? The Brit cafe set is sort of like the primal group for bikers there. It's funny because the group shown in the video seems so... nice and articulate. I remember watching the Wild One in junior high and thinking you had to be a badass to get into biking. I also remember having to deal with one of a group of Devil's Disciples guys who stole some stuff off of my parts counter back in the day. I remember being scared to confront him. Were the Brit guys also somewhat rough and tough?
Best,
Ben

Could be. Depending on who "they" were and how well "you" knew them  ;D  ;)

Andy---I'm reading a book about the 60's Brit cafe bikes.
References are made to "unit" and "pre-unit" construction.
Don't know what this means. Can you (or anyone) shed some light?

And yes, nice video indeed. Thank you.

unit- motor and trannie in one casing,
pre-unit- 2 seperate housings.
then comes OIF (oil in frame) and pre-oif to further muddle things.

Or, more acurately:

Unit - One puddle of oil under the centre of the bike
Pre-Unit - Two distinct puddles of oil under the centre of the bike

Oil-In-Frame - Bike stood in a lake of oil

That Tempest has a Bristol Centaurus engine in it. 2400 hp.
If it's worth doing at all it's worth over-doing.

That's NOT a Tempest..... ;)
FYI.... the Centaurus made over 2,500HP and later models made up to 3,000HP.

A friend of mine is going to do an annual on a Sea Fury (Race 99), the only payment he requested was a ride. :)

I almost wished I lived near a population centre to have a chance to work on them again, every 5 years or so I make a pilgrimage to the Lanc in Hamilton or Ottawa hop across the fence and rub my hands in 100 weight to keep them soft for another 5 years, some of the happiest days of my life were walking a flight line.
I believe the bottom A/C is a SNJ, what we called a Harvard and the Aussies a Whirraway with mods.

That particular aircraft is technically an SNJ-5, but it is really a T-6/SNJ/Harvard Mutt.  It was formerly known as Mystical Power, now Hot off the Press, and is currently for sale if anyone is interested.  It is experimental class, being a bare bones racer, and pretty quick for the slug it is.
