Is that your normal drive to work? ........ with you being the only car on the road?

seems so very strange to see that

I am a general contractor... remodels, painting, decks, landscaping, etc...
I was going to a customer's lakeside mountain home.  I had to downsize the file from 225mb so the clarity is way down but, if you look really closely toward the end of the video you may be able to make out Long's Peak peeking up over the tree line.
here is a still view

Heff,

hehe... my biz partner and i were discussing funny ideas to put on our business cards like "bob the builder" doing kooky things.  you know, when you work w/ only one other guy things get pretty hilarious like that.

wouldn't ya know it, while i was in Sweden, I snapped that pic in one of the subways.  if you haven't been to Sweden, you're really missing out... I think I spent more time in the "tunnel" or "T" taking pictures of all the art... simply amazing.

anyway, we figured it was just what we were looking for w/ the distasteful nature, but a hint of genuine art.   ;)

p.s.   i can never get youtube videos to embed... can someone tell me how?
thanks

nevermind... i figured it out myself!  i found a post that einyodeler had posted w/ embedded video and chose to quote from his reply... there i saw the you tube embed jargon from the youtube button above the text field in the reply screen w/ something between the brackets that didn't look like the complete embedding code from the youtube site... so i looked at my code and here is what i did...

here is the regular code used for the link...
here is what is needed to embed... push the youtube button and put only what comes after the = from the link code

[tube=425,350]omudM3Yelt4[/tube]

( i took the yous out of the tubes so you could see what i was talking about  ;D  or else it would just show up as my embedded video again)

make any sorta sense at all?

and yes... those of us that live around here, ride the road up to estes often!

this big elk meadows drive is a lot of twisty fun but, more often than not... way too much gravel to even consider taking at a quick pace on a bike.  speed limit is 20... oops  ;) :D ;D

you probably saw the fork in the road... that is where it turns to nuthin' but washboard gravel  :-\  last year during the blizzard, most of the big elk community was snowed in for at least a week or two.

i was actually picking up KBPI the local rock station in denver.  i thought it made a good soundtrack too!

'03 dodge 2500 hemi ...  :)  maybe you noticed the 7.7 avg. mpg drop down to 7.0 in the time that the video was running...   :(

its a work/loan truck from the same client... i do a ton of work for this guy and they have more vehicles than they can drive so, yay for me!

i would normally be driving my trooper but, the dodge has studded snow tires and i've been hauling lots of stuff up there to carry out the remodel.

yea... i'm glad to finally have the trooper.  i've been paying for gas in the dodge for over 2 years now and 13 mpg is about all she wrote for that thing.

boy its nice to put your foot into it though!  :D  after the K&N cold air intake was installed it really opened up the growl.  roll down the right side window and you can hear the engine sucking the life from the earth.  i'm not sure weather to add a smiley or un-smiley so...

fun at work today included demolition and drywall fun!

Yes, Hef, thanks for the still, I couldn't pick it out of the video. I ventured there via the Keyhole once upon a time. Not too terribly difficult, but I'm probably not up to it these days. At "The Narrows" the trail is just wide enough for your shoe, 1000 feet up on one side, 1000 feet down on the other, IIRC.

We N-E-E-D to see the same video but on your bike Heffay!  Seeing where you live begs three questions to be answered:

(1) Do bears #$%* in the woods?  (People around here ask this all the time and no one seems to answer... I gotta know).

(2) If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it r-e-a-l-l-y make a noise?  (enough philosophical BS for this thread).

(3) If a man talks to a woman in in the woods, does she r-e-a-l-l-y hear him?  (This one seems to be more of a personal question as I know my wife doesn't hear me anywhere we happen to be).

Seriously, how to get the grin off of your face when you're on the bike on that road?  AND what's the biggest critter you've come up on?

kach me... i figured one of those questions would be why wasn't i riding.
well, that is actually coming back down the mountain from my present remodel job... the top 5 miles of that road are washboard dirt road... i don't take my bikes on dirt roads daily.  i'd be on the bike daily though if it were not for that.  its just not safe the last few miles and people really do fly on that road... if someone came wide in the gravel on me i'd be done... and trust me!  more than 50% of the time, they swing wide!

in fact, i had the camera mounted on the passenger seat and got some video while i was on the dirt, sliding around, but the washboard made the camera shift so it pointed at the floor.   ;D

now, lets see.
1) whats the real question and i'll tell you if bears #$%* in the woods or not.   ;D
2) when the beavers chewed the aspens down that were part of the landscaping i know they made a noise!   ;D
3) only reason for a man AND woman to be in the woods simultaneously is not especially for talking.   ;)

how about the biggest critter that has come up on me?  just this week, one of these guys (3 total) walked about a foot past the window that i was painting the trim of.  made my heart skip a beat at first till i figured out what the large ominous figure right outside was... just bambi.   ;D

Right that's it. I'm jacking in my job, selling the house, packing my stuff, if the missus and the dog wanna come along that's fine, but I'm moving to heffay-land ;) Seriously, though, I watched the videos and the only traffic I could see was yourself and another pick-up parked on the side of the road. In 15 minutes of my commute I come across half of the south of England!
Question: what was the barrier across the road for? Is that the extent of someone's property or a safety device to notify whoever that there's people up in those hills when the weather's bad?

big elk meadows is a private community and the gate just happens to be at the highest point of the road... the paved part is county road the dirt part is private... hence, the dirt.  the gate is for "privacy"... all the houses and lakes are another 1/4 mile down from the gate.

the gate is at 7725 feet in altitude... a clue as to why there is so little traffic.   ;)

here's a google earth view.... you can see the fork in the road (bottom right) that is at the beginning of the vid, then the hairpin to the right.  the vid path is marked in green and the remodel i'm working at is the "house".  so, you're basically looking at a fairly upscale lakeside community out in the boonies... from above.   ;D

my house is to the southeast about 35 miles... as you can tell, not as the crow flies.
