X-Ring Chain on '71 CB500/4
« on: December 11, 2007, 07:20:28 PM »
I've heard of the problems using a X or O Ring Chain on the 550 - does this also apply to the 500?

Somebody just recently posted pix of the case wear on a 550. My guess, based on the arrangement of the clutch parts, is that the 500 would suffer worse.

You can do it if you turn the centre of the front sprocket and back space it away from the cases.
The O-ring chain that I used meassures 0.200" wider than the non O-ring chain that was on the bike.
I had the front sprocket narrowed in the center by 0.100" and then put a 0.100" spacer behind it.
Problem solved.
