Cruise control on a 78?
« on: July 26, 2005, 06:48:15 AM »
Anyone else here have a 1978 CB750K?

I bought one a week back, and it had cruise control on it. I took this off, because it cluttered up an already crowded area. I was just wondering if this was a "standard" on that year bike. I also noticed that the throttle housing (white long tube) was longer than my grips to accomodate for the cruise control. I believe this is why i am having issues with my master brake cylandir hitting my tach when i switched bars to clubmans. The throttle housing was about an inch longer than normal, so it pushed the master cylandir up on the bars farther up towards the tach. Has anyone heard of a longer than normal throttle housing? (i dont know the technical term for it, the white tube thing the throttle cables connect to), or is it normal that after you put the grip on, you have about an inch of the white tube that is not covered? Im thinking all i have to do is cut an inch off the end of the tube, problem solved.

The cruise control is an after market item.  To be safe I would get a new throttle sleeve.  They don't cost very much.

You can cut the end off. it does not anchor anything. I had a cruise on mine but no extra tube lenth. I would guess that whoever put the cruise on, put on a new tube. How wide was your cruise? I had a vistacruise and it as about 3/8 inch wide.

Mine was around an inch wide.........i dont think i would like cruise control on a motorcycle, its not really any different than driving around with a stuck throttle.  :-\ the one on my bike it was just a switch you flipped that held the throttle in place, then you flipped the switch off when you wanted it to let go of the throttle. No thanks.

I've got one on my modern "touring" bike (ZRX1200).  I use it about 30 seconds every hour or so, so I can shake out my right hand.

Also a lot of fun to clamp it down and see how far you can go with no hands.

I've learned that no hands distance is inversly proportional to rate of speed and curvature of the road.    ;)

BTW, if they're set up right you can overcome the clamping force without unclamping it first.
I'd rather ride a Yamaha than eat worms.

My 78K has the cruise control. I use it on the hwy periodically to reduce muscle fatigue.
