BTW.... the answer to the question is NO, a 1975 CB500T seat does not fit 1974 CB550.  Actually, it will sit on it.  It will rest on it, but the hinges will not bolt properly.  The edges of the seat will rest on top of the 550 side covers and scratch indentations in the 550 side covers. 

Actually, it is a 2 part answer...

Hope, you don't have a 74 550.  You may have the bike registered in the state of Louisiana as a 74 550 because the frame says 550, but the VIN on the frame indicates that you have a 75 550.  Also, the paint job on the tank indicates that you have a 75 550.

I remember the greenspun forums...  Though I never posted personally.

Lots of information there, but it was so damn disorganized!  This website is incredible by comparison.

I was with them for about a year until they died. I was in dire need of web info to feed my SOHC/4 addiction. Just my withdrawl was becoming very painful, Bob Wessner tipped me off to this site. Life has been great ever since!

I thought I remembered a time that we only communicated via email.  I couldn't remember what (if anything) the thing was called...   but I can remember having some sort of bike problem that needed remedy, and I would shoot emails off to people, and then sit and wait next to the computer (or frequently return to the computer) just to check the email in hopes of getting my remedy...

That made for a looooong day!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to remember just the mailing list!
