Topic: CB750K Rearsets - my solution

- RC51 rearsets, $50 for the pair
- VFR Shifter, "borrowed" from my roomates parts pile
- Aluminum spacers from McMaster (1" up top, 1/2" on bottom)
- 1-1/8" frame clamps

I need to get some longer bolts for the lower mount, but its all ready to go.  Foot position is about the same as my daily ridden CBR with track rearsets.





I had set the rearset position with some flat stock to make sure I wanted them there before putting holes in my frame





This is what i had done originally, 2 frame clamps on each side, and the foot position was just awful.  No way was that going to work.

I flipped the brake lever on the drum upside down, and i'll probably put a set of rod ends on each end - one more thing to figure out.

You've got a good solution there.  I've had rearsets sitting on the bike for a couple of days with those same frame clamps.  I'm like you - at first it felt pretty good, but the longer I sit on it the more I think my knees would hate me after an extended ride.  1" lower and 2" farther forward would make a world of difference.



I don't have easy access to a welder, but I might need to do something differnt besides the frame clamps.  Did you just drill straight through the frame and use a long bolt?  Any worries about weakening the frame there?  I'd like to position the pegs similar to yours and my 400 has about the same layout.  Only thing is I'd have to commit myself and cut off the stock brake pedal bushing/housing thing on the right side.  I'll probably do that anyway, it's just a bit of a leap I guess.

Are you using a shift linkage or are you going with GP pattern?

Oh yeah - I'm starting on the brake side.  Hopefully I'll finish that while I'm still motivated and the shifter will be easy.

I've also completely chickened out of doing the brake side, I'm going disc brake at the rear using the busa M/C

I just got some cbr1000rr rear sets and haven't decided if I'm ready to tackle that project yet. I'm not sure which way to go either - brackets or drill thru the frame.

I like the mounting location idea.  Being as my frame is still in the welding on mods stage, mind if I borrow your idea and modify it a little?  I tried tabs, but short of a really big mounting flange I would be unable to get the rearsets at the proper angle for the way that they were designed.

As for rear brakes, I am also going disk, using a cbr mc, caliper, mount, and disk.  I will need to modify the hub and the swingarm a little to make it all fit.  But, no more adjusting brakes!

Yep, straight through the frame - Its behind the swingarm pivot and I dont think a pair of 8mm holes is going to be a big deal

Reverse shift.  Better than linkages

That was the problem with the first arrangement, other than the position - they wanted to hinge up way too easily when I sat on the bike.

I had the dealer order them for me - they're 3 piece, about $8 each.

By hinge up, are you refering to the mounts or the pegs?  I can see the pegs moving when you put your feet on if they are rotated out of position, though I hadn't thought of that before.  Good to know in advance though.  I will make a small triangle to go in between the frame tubes and another one to weld on the lower side of the rear triangle tube.  Hmmm, while I'm cutting and grinding I may just move the rear triangle, but then again, maybe not.  Anyways, it looks good, nice way to mount them up.

DK shows 1 on hand, I think thats why I didnt order from them.  The dealer that trued my wheels ordered them for me, they had a bunch of catalogs of stuff... I just told them what I wanted and then found it for me

The pegs would hinge up - not exactly confidence inspiring, the way they're mounted now is about how they would be if they were on the RC51.  If the pegs were solid mounted to the holders, then this wouldnt be an issue, but they were still too uncomfortable - I tried fitting the rearsets from my SV650 (fixed pegs) and it wasnt really any better.

With the rear brake linkage hooked up directly like you have it, what happens to the rear brake when you compress/extend the rear suspension? Does it apply the brake for you or are you getting away with it?

Looks ok - both ends move free.
