It's snowing and someone just rode by on a Harley. I know Wisconsin has some real dedicated riders, but in the snow?!!! The roads are not that bad for a car/truck to drive on, but it's snowing!!!! At least he had a helmet on.

Anyone here ever ride in the snow?

not on purpose! Although this spring when I got my CBR I was like a typical kid who has a new toy...the novelty hadn't worn off yet! Rode it an hour north (was 3 degrees celsius when I left) played paintball for several hours then rode home...by the time I made it home there were flurries! Forunately it wasn't staying on the groubd and I left before it got bad but I don't think I will be doing that again any time soon!

Yeah I rode every day one winter in the snow.. missed one day! Not only that I used to double a buddy to work 5 miles each way in the snow! When I was 21 I finally learned to drive a car!

Have taken my 750 out in the snow on Christmas day a few times.

There is a guy I know from another forum that lives in Calgary Alberta and in about 4 yrs he has only had a couple months where he did not ride at least 1 time per month.

Phil Funnell. a Beeemer dealer in Vancouver rode across Canada in the wionter on a bike, at least once if not more times..

Yes some do ride in the winter..

Ive done it a few times...one time was in Glasgow, Scotland when I had come out of a student bar after a few hours drinking and found it had been snowing heavily - around 10` had fallen.....I had to get home so I rode the bike (CB350SG) very slowly through the snow....another time was in South Dakota coming across Needle Pass near Mt Rushmore...pass was covered in light fluffy snow...reduced to 5 mph/hr on my CB750K4 and even then it wasnt much fun...not something Id do often. Freezing cold yes....snow no!

Got caught in the snow on Mt Hood here, returning from a weekend in Bend. Glad I was lazy that weekend and took the Goldwing with the Sidecar (it has a radio), and taking it slow wasn't too bad. That was the only time I wish I had spent the extra money on brakes for the side car, as it kept wanting to pass me slowing down. At least I had a half hours worth of fun in a rest area parking lot spinning around, kinda took the edge off before I headed back down the other side into town.

I've been caught on my Honda a few times in light snow or hail. The elevation rise from ABQ to Santa Fe sometimes shortens the riding season at the top of the hill (like now, ice on the roads) when it is still clear down lower.

If I were going to ride in the snow on purpose, I'd want something like my old SR500 (I miss that bike sometimes) or maybe it's brother the XT 500. And dual purpose tires.

A white-knuckle ride. I learned to listen for weather reports that day. A snow started while I was at work. I had to get home somehow, and was too young to know any better!

There's this great old photo I've been trying to find(w/ no luck thus far) from around 1916 with a dozen or so bikes ridding around downtown here in Ellensburg, WA w/ about 2-3 feet of snow. I've always wanted to try, but I'm sure it would just be an accident waiting to happen. There is a couple of crazies here in town that ride dirtbikes to school in the snow... I've even seen a couple scooters cruising around on a couple of inches of the white stuff... Crazy, I know

The guy in Calgary that rides it a bit every month is on a Harley with 90 + rear wheel hp. lately to he rides a Road King.. the weather there is far worse than here..

He is a riding instructor. probably a bit better rider than some..

ADDED.. I had my info a bit wrong,

He is now celebrating 10 YEARS of riding every month of the year..120 months in a row!!

Phil Funnell, thats like a ghost from the past. He used to give BMW tech courses eons ago also, crazy character. When I lived in Vancouver he rode up the Alaska highway in the dead of winter with chains on. I suppose it was good publicity, for what I was never sure.

I never rode on the street in the snow, I do own a car, but used to go out and crash my DT360 in the snow thinking it was fun, I got over that too!

just got out first snow here. i'd say about 3 to 4 inches. time to put the two wheeler in the garage and now bring out the four wheeler!

I used to ride in the snow every winter although thankfully British winters do not bring too much of the white stuff. I only passed my car test in 1998 (started rided a bike in 1988). Since I started driving I have gone rather soft when it comes to riding my bikes in the bad weather! I allways kept at least two bikes - one for nice days and one as a daily rider. The most snow miles I did was on my CBX550. I was usually with a pillion rider too as I used to take my mate to work every day. I have also done a trip aver the Heads of the Valleys road (A465) in South Wales in the snow on an RG250 Gamma (what an idiot - not recommended). These days I drive my Volvo most of the time. I am afraid to say I am a fair weather rider these days. I did take my FZR1000 into work on a sub zero day a few weeks back (very icey) and this reminded me of what REAL bike riding is all about.

If you do ride in the snow (or ice, rain, fog etc.) - just take it easy

Riding in the snow is fun on a dual sport, I did it often on my Yamaha TW200. Now the TW200 is at our Hunting/Fishing camp 200 miles from me, I wish I had it for the winter.

I did it on my old Dt250 for a couple of years, it's fun on a dirt bike when your 20 and it doesn;t hurt so much to fall off. I did ride through January or February in western MA back in 1978 OR 9 on a borrowed GT380. I remember each month starting in Sept or Oct, I went 10 mph slower on my 10 mile commute to work as the snow and slush accumulated and the temperature dropped.
I wouldn't mind trying it on a dirt bike again, but I think falling would be a bit more than I can take.

My dad used to pull me, my brother, and sister on saucer sleds (2 sleds at once!) with an old 1967 Suzuki x6 Hustler . Poor-mans ATV! He never dropped it once in ice or snow; still haven't figured out how he did it

I remember one year he got ambitious and built a ramp out of snow. He would get up to speed and swing us wide to launch us over the ramp

As my bike is my only means of transport I'll have to. I'm the only biker in my company still coming to work on my bike, it's not snowing but we are getting below zero C here. Fortunatly winters in the Netherlands have been pretty good these last couple of years.... They are predicting a pretty heavy winter this year though
