Our new house!!! "almost definite"
« on: December 16, 2007, 09:29:13 AM »
Elizabeth and I have been house hunting for a while now and it looks like we're about to go under contract on this one... we were in a bidding war w/ 3 different developers for the last couple of months.

here are some pics of our new house that we can only put the hoo in hooray about.  basically, it is an "almost definite"  haha.

3 bedroom (2 of which are very small)
2 car garage (or for us... 6 motorcycle garage)
1 bath (gonna add another one)
and the usual other stuff.

it is located w/in a golf course community which makes for a nice quiet little neighborhood... until we show up!   8)

this will be a first house for both of us!  i owned a trailer once... eh hem, excuse me, mobile home... but, i don't think that counts.   :D

very excited!

What does that mean- 3 other developers?  Did they want to tear it down and build new?
I like the front porch.  Looks like a nice place.  We still have one bathroom.  No biggie- but Kathleen doesn't have make-up and stuff all over the place.

BEFORE you sign on the dotted line, make sure you won't have any problems with motorcycles.  Oh yeah- find that out first.
Dude- your 8 layers are showing!

believe it or not... it does need some work... very livable but, still could use new finishes on most everything.
developer/contractor fix and flip guys is what i meant.
basically, the same thing that i will be doing  ;D

Ditto on Ernie.

Looks like a nice little place.  And a yard for a dog!  Woo Hoo!

Good luck guys.  That's genuinely exciting.  We didn't get our own place till we were in our 40s.  After 7 years my wife and I will still be walking home from someplace, and just appreciate how grateful we are to have a house of our own that we like and has served us well.  Our own refuge.

honestly, i would say we are fairly respectable w/ our motorcycle-ness.  usually, just an in or an out w/out too much "rev it to the moon and tear off into the night".
very good suggestion though.

and, thanks guys for the nice comments.

Neat place Heffay. I like the front porch, a good place to hang on a summer's eve with a cold beer. ;)

Thats a great looking place, I really hope it becomes a "definite definite".  ;D
P.S. Is all that lovely snow included in the price or will the p.o's be taking it with them?
  ??? ;D ::)

My bike can be repaired.

I know how exiting the first home ownership is Heffay :)  Does the city (like here) hold the homeowner responsible for keeping the public sidewalks adjacent to the property clear of snow?  You're a young feller and 3 stretches of wet snow would be nothing though ;)

Our first home, back in the early '80's was similar in size, and I loved it and was very proud to have gotten it, even with 18.25% mortgage of $50k.

One thing that I have always found very useful is dry basement space. It's not worth much in the evaluation of property, but is a whole lot of extra good space. Being into music, I've lived in subterrainian environments most of my life!

Hope it comes through for you and all best,
Ben

right now... it has a crawl space THAT YOU DON'T HAVE TO CRAWL IN... i can actually stand up straight with an inch or so to spare.  its up on a large hill so, i'm pretty sure it'll stay dry due to the water table not being anywhere near.  i've been thinking i'll probably finish off a portion for that subterrainian environment as i really dig 'em too.

That one hurt.  My wife just put in hardwood floors.  And yes, that means the Triumph hasn't gone to the dealer for the 12K service yet.  ::)

Well done Heffy, did you mean that you're just gonna do it up and flip it too?

I lived in Army houses until I retired in 2001 and bought my first house, I've been in it 7 years in March, or about 6 interest rate rises, boo hoo! Good thing is that the house' value has almost doubled since I bought it, I should have bought two!

It's now 15 years old and needs paint, carpets, etc etc, but the Army has come to the party again and will pay a third of my mortgage payments from July 2008, under the "Defence Home Owners Assistance Scheme", so I'm gonna renovate! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Do you have room for this?  http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12234
Mostly underground, so it shouldn't bother the neighbors.
