CB350 gaskets...
« on: December 16, 2007, 05:48:38 PM »
Man, I can't remember for the life of me if I asked this before or not, but I'm in the final engine assembly stages on my 350 twin, and wanted to see everyone's thoughts on the headgasket, dry? with sealer? What methods are you folks doing? I'd rather not do it one way, take her all apart, and do it again, just to find out what I should've done in the first place. That's all, should be a quick one for you gurus out there! Thanks!

I vote for gasket sealer. I'm going to try copper cote on the 350 I'm doing now.

If both surfaces are perfectly clean, you shouldn't need any gasket sealer. A mate of mine paints each side of the gasket with "silver frost" enamel paint on used gaskets, and that seems to work well, but shouldn't be necessary on a good new one. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

I'm with Terry.  And Honda.  They say nothing about anything on the gasket.  But a guy I went to high school with (who was known for building the best engines) used a thin coat of grease.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Yea I was just reading over the manual, it dictates uses a thing coating of motor oil on both sides of the gaskets, similar to the other gaskets on the engine. So I'll probably go this route. Cheap, and hopefully, effective! That means the engine gets assembled tomorrow! YES!  ;D

"to hold them in place"

I guess I've been of the thinking that it won't hurt, but it might help!
