These were popular in the mid-1970s. They were actually called "fuel injectors", and came from several vendors like Posa and Lake. The little knob on the left, by the cable, turns to position the flat side of the "injector needle" relative to where you wanted it. This was the "tuning feature" of the carb. The needle is fixed in position, while the slide moves open-closed over it. The needle has a long, tapered-to-wider flat spot ground up its whole length on one side. Other versions had an additional flat spot added near WOT to improve upon the leanness at high throttle that these units displayed. The needle was sized to the cylinder's displacement. They were sold a 1 carb with a 4-way splitter of the Fours, and a 1-to-2 style for twins, and a full Four setup, hard to sync unless you bought the Posa, which had little carb-top adjuster receptacles for the cable.

I never noticed a performance improvement with these, rather a difficulty in getting a good start-idle scenario. The guys who shelled out the $400 (1970s USD) for them swore by them. But, if I had paid that much for a set, I'd swear, too.  ;D

Probably OK for racing, but I think they only had 1 adjustment, that is to say  if you adjusted for wide open you could do nothing to alter the idle circuit, unless you change the needle.

And then came the LECTRON, which had a float bowl & adjustments..!!

Did the LECTRON have the same 1-needle, flat-sided setup for tuning?

I think it had jets but what it shared with these was a guillotine style slide.

To the poster who emailed me re guage, you may be able to polish the yellow out.. seaweb knows what those go for.

This type of carb was also produced in the UK under the name of the Gardner carbureta.
As was said, it was only suitable for some racing applications as it could only be tuned for top end performance.

Yeah, it seemed like I could only pick 1 range, then tune for that. They worked OK in that regard, it's just that if it was for street use, it was either "to idle, or not to idle" was the question.

Oh, one other thing: you had to ALWAYS shut off the fuel petcock when stopped. They had a nasty habit of draining the whole gas tank into the cylinders. I suppose that's why they developed vacuum petcocks, but these bikes only got them late.
