Another K0 in the stable, this one's a beauty
« on: December 17, 2007, 09:43:48 AM »

She's a bit on the rusty side. Tank isn't a wrinkle. Switch isn't a recessed. Front fender isn't cut. This bike is kind of a combo between my earlier K0 and my early K1. Its a 5/70 build. I need the chain guard for the K0 and the rear blinker brackets for the K1. The engine is stuck but I might just keep it on hand. My K0 is a 900cc and I might want it stock someday, who knows. The rest is going to be parted out on eBay I think or if anybody sees anything they need PM me.

Makes a little more sense now. I think that part already went in the garbage.

Thrown away in my shop doesn't mean they are gone.  Still just a couple feet from the bike actually. They are pretty crusty though.

Can you look at the head where the notch in the valve cover is to get at the plugs. There is a rib there and a head bolt.. is the bolt flush to the top fin?? or up on the rib? and serial # (approx) if the bolt is flush with the fin

I am trying to get an idea how old this head I bought is.. looks early.

My sandcast was dirtier than that when I found it!!

Looked at the auction.. nice buy!

My instruments were like that or worse and cleaned up nicely, the one in the pic (tach) looked pretty unfaded.

No problems at all. I said I could pick it up on Sunday and he asked that I be there before noon. I showed up, he helped me load it, I forked over the cash and I was off. I do know that he has at least 2 and possibly 3 different ebay ID's.

Well I took a look and the bolt is just like all the later 750's I have.

Then I went to look at the other K0 I have and it has no bolt or boss at all? 10/69 build.

So you must be in the area as well. I wonder if we've met. I'm sure you're one of the guys I fight for bikes on CL :)

Thanks for the tip. I always thought the 'operation' looked a little shady, but I'm glad to hear it isn't.

I'm  50 miles east of Taylors/St. Croix Falls.

I take a look at the MPLS CL but never went to actually look at anything yet.

The bottom of the bolt head on the crusty K0 is the same level as the rib, just like later CB750's. On my other K0 there is no boss or bolt on the rib. I was looking at it in the dark as I was to lazy to go across the room to turn on a light. Is this bolt in a different location? I also checked my Cafe bike and that bolt was missing!

it is starting to look to me like there may have been more thasn one foundry making heads!

The head I just picked up looks very sandcast, the coring work is not as smooth as later heads, and the front bolt is on the fin level, the rib splits to allow this. Same as yours. I think it is the head made from #1026,147 through to #1064,902 that is the first head to use the bolt in the front.

I checked a 72 and 73 head and both had the bolt up higher in the rib.

I will add some info to the id heads thread.

what do you mean by the 72 and 73 were up higher on the rib?

Mine looks like this, just like my K1, K4, etc.

Early K0 had no bolt anywhere in the area, correct? Then they found that they leaked a bit and added them later in K0 production?
