Headlight assembly - CB750
« on: December 17, 2007, 06:27:15 PM »
Assembled the headlight this evening to make sure it all fits together properly since it will go off for paint soon - looks like there's a small gap between the outer trim ring and the headlight - is this normal to allow for headlight adjustment?  The trim is new (repro, Emgo) and fit tight against the headlight (7" Autopal) so I assume all is well.  My concern is water getting in the housing affecting the wiring.

how is the quality of that headlight unit? I am thinking that I need one of those and the price seems too good to pass up. I would also imagine that it would need some room around it to be adjustable like you are saying. There are drain holes at the bottom and rear of the headlight shell for this I believe.

I purchased a Buell headlight and it's perfect too.
The gap on the Buell light looks the same as the one you have pictured.
I wouldn't worry about it.

Valid concern. This is a good reason for some dielectric grease on the connectors in the rat's nest behind the headlight. The grounding connections to the turn signal stems were badly corroded on mine. I was able to get some replacements from a member and these too received a coating of grease on installation.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Most Buell's are naked streetfighters and have lots of usable parts for our projects. The indicator lights (signal, highbeam, oil pressure) come to mind.
