I saw a 550 cafe in a magazine once that had a setup like that using an oval shaped K&N. No reason it shouldn't work if there is enough filter area there.

You would be better off with more filter area...IMO

I don't know how air turbulence would effect it sitting like that. On my 650 with the air box cover off I can't drive with my legs on any kind of highway bars because somehow it creates a vacuum around the air intake and chokes the engine out. I'd be worried about something similar.

K&N used to have a foam airfilter for the 500 and 550 in its program that replaced the standard paper airfilter as well as its container. It (R 82 for the CB500 and R 83 for the 550) was a 102 mm long oval filter. In the brochure K&N claimed increased airflow. Personally I'd stick to the original parts. Other than original parts may affect inletpulsations that help to fill the combustionchambers effectively.

So 350 where do you have your battery and electrical?  I would like to do that same thing but that filter sits right where I wanted to make a box for the battery and electrical.  Looks good by the way.

That bike is beautiful.  Too bad i am not using a seat like that.  I am going for the bobber look with a solo seat with springs.  Guess I will just have to stick with the pods.
