Hey Ya'll
« on: December 19, 2007, 04:17:29 AM »
Been a long time and though I don't mean to, I haven't been here as often as I would like. Being stuck in that damn wheel chair has me all grumpy half the damn time. I can't work on Rita like I planned, and can't even get out of the trailer more than once or twice a week, drivin me stir crazy.

The good news is that my Doctor thinks I can start walking in January as opposed to March, Makes me me happy just to think about it. The surgeries went very well and everything is healing very well indeed. Hopefully soon I will get my shoulders looked at as well and get them fixed as well.

As far as Rita is conserned, I have her stripped down to the Camshaft. Didn't want to pull the cam until I knew what I was doin. Don't know if I should just drop the cam chain in or hang it or what, lolol. Just like me to dive in without checking how cold the water is, LMAO.

I'll be contacting a couple of you for some tech advice soon. I have very few things to purchase and a little machine work to do, and I can start rebuilding Rita into the Awesome Ride I and everyone here knew she could be one day. Within a month, I will be pruchasing an 850cc big bore kit from Cycle Exchange, making Rita the monster she wants to be. I have new Jugs, a new head from Dennis here, and a ton(almost literally) of all kinds of new parts, including new front and rear sprockets for better gearing and mileage, new to me valve cover and breather, coils, ignition, front wheel, front disc brake and all hardware to mount it to a springer, And tons more, lol. I will be picking up some bricks and lumber tomorrow to fashion a stand to put Rita on right out front on my deck, make it easy to work on her, even in the chair. Oh, are the swingarm bushings and or felt pads easy to get still? I haven't talked to a parts guy in a long time, don't even know where the local Honda shop is. ;D ;D

Anyway, thought I would drop in and give everyone a head up on everything. Rita told me she better be on the road by Summer or she is gonna kick my ass, LMAO.

Talk to ya'll soon,

Jeff

Hey Jeff.  Good to hear that things are healing up properly and that you'll be starting to get back on your feet sooner than expected. It always helps to have something to look forward to, to give us a spiritual lift. ;) Sounds like you've pretty well got things on a roll, as far as Rita's concerned. Lots of Luck with your progress and her's! I totally understand the stir crazy blt, I'd be the same way! Hopefully, you'll be cruising the Highways & Byways in a short time! Good to hear from you Jeff.

Jeff, glad to hear you're on the mend. Bet it's frickin' cold out on the delta this time of year. Hope it's not puttin' to much ache in dem bones ;) :)

I'm busy weekends for a bit here. Tearing into an engine, cleaning up the Daily Rider, and hopefully getting the new bike to dyno. When I get that stuff done I should be able to make it out your way for a little wrenchin' and jawin'. Late January I'm thinking. Each time I do a swingarm I swear to myself it will be the last so hope you get those old bushings out beforehand ;) :D

I totally understand, lololol. I will be purchasing the Bushings here in a week or so, I found a guy on Ebay who has them, though not listed at the moment, and another guy who has the felts, sending him a money order for them today. As far as removing them, I have no idea on how to go about it, but will try before you can make it our here, lolol. I'll even buy Pizza and Sodas for the Visit, make a luncheon out of it, LMAO.

Good on you Jeff, I'm glad to see that you're back on the mend, and are closer to getting Rita back on the road.

PM me your mailing address and I'll send you a New Old Stock Wiseco 836cc kit I've got gathering dust in my garage, you'll need a head gasket, but you can buy them new easier there than I can here. (ask Sean, he sent me one recently, what a good bloke!)

It's my Christmas present to you mate, and it'll save you some dollars that you can probably use better elsewhere. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, how about I drop some even better news on Ya'll?!?!?!?!? I got home this evening after my doctors appointment, and he is very happy with how well my ankle is doing so he told me that as of Sunday I am supposed to start weight bearing again. Just walking a few steps to start with but I should be able to walk a decent distance, maybe even up to a quarter mile, by the end of January.

As far as polishing the finned covers, a bro has a bench grinder and I can pick up some narrow polishing discs and polish them up great. So, through all the help everyone here provided, Rita is moving along better and so am I. I stopped at a shop to pick up my new tanks only to find out they were misplaced. I have to go back in January, the guy left for christmas vacation, lolol.

And Terry, PM sent.

Okay, so this morning the wife gave me about a gazillion chores to do as we have all her family over here on Christmas eve for a BBQ every year, so I had to mow lawns, clean the patio, restock the beer fridge etc etc, the usual last minute stuff.

I'd packed Jeffs Christmas present up, and wanted to get it in the mail before the PO shuts down for the next few days, so I waited until she went out and sneaked off in the other direction, with Jeff's box under my arm. Good news is that it's on it's way mate, it won't be there in time for Christmas, but I sent it airmail, you should have it in a week or so, so Merry Christmas! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Jeff,

Didn't read this until today.  What a great Christmas gift - yours from Terry and mine hearing the good news about your getting back on your feet.  I look forward to seeing Rita run next time I'm out your way.

Well, got the Cam out today, tomorrow, I start work on the head and getting it removed. One of the cam tower nuts was loose, almost completely off the stud, but everything else was nice and tight and came off smoothly. None of the bolts or nuts were siezed, a big relief for me, lol. I finally got the the Home Depot and am making blocks to stand the bike on to raise it a bit while I work on it, easier than bending all the way down to it. The exhaust is all I have left to remove, then the head, then the jugs after that. I have a feeling this is going to be an easy rebuild, Rita wants it as much as I do so we will work great together, lol.

I'll keep ya'll up to date on whats going on.

Peace and Long Rides,

Jeff

I am flabbergasted. I can't thank you enough Terry, I just got the 836 kit in the mail today. Except a little rust on a couple of the rings, these are in great shape, actually, it looks like a completely new set. I can't wait to get the new jugs bored out and get these installed. Rita will run better than ever before, Guaranteed!!!!!

No worries mate, it is a "New Old Stock" Wiseco 836cc kit that I bought a few years ago, all you need is a head gasket and you're away! Cheers, Terry. ;D
